how likely is it?
How likely is it For the law that does not require us to go outside the U.S. if we marry a us citizen to come back?
|
Re: how likely is it?
What do you mean? Having to go back to your home country depends on how you entered the US. People who entered legally can file for residency through the US citizen spouse without leaving the US. Those that entered illegaly must leave the US to file for residency (except those covered under 245i).

Re: how likely is it?
I should have been more specific. I mean for those that entered illegally we have to go back but it wasn't always this way right?

Re: how likely is it?
I heard it's an 80% chance of approval in Ciudad Juarez but I'm not sure if that's true. I heard this from someone who went through the process actually. They lasted about a years time in Mexico before they were allowed back in.

Ari88-- I'm not sure how long it's been that way, but for the past few years, anyone that entered illegaly must go back to their country. It's not something new. |
Re: how likely is it?
I know that it is not new that we have to go back to our country jolie. Its just that well I don't want to take that risk of being in Mexico for more than a year. I guess its just a price we have to pay.

Re: how likely is it?
okay so what about a person like me who my dad, a legal permanent resident, filed a petition for me in 1998....
so if i marry a us citizen i can get legalized here in the US right? through 245i? |
Re: how likely is it?
Ari, your right it wasnt alwayst this way... It used to be a lot easier for me people to get married and get there papers but times have changed and now we have even more obsticles in the way.

Re: how likely is it?
The re-application of 245i & its grandfathering benefits is highly unlikely in this Congress, unless there is some form of immigration package.
Every terrorist attack however makes advocation of the benefit even more difficult as any EWI can benefit as it gives Congress & even the President another excuse. |
