Feeling REALLY Discouraged

I'm trying to recruite people from NJ to attend a Dream Camp training, but I just keep getting such negative remarks. I mean I've gotten a few people to contact but I feel like a lot of people are opposed to it.

I was explaining it to an acquaintance who lives in NY. He says he heard about it all week but doesn't really know what it's about. So, I gave him a whole fact speech. Then, we ended up in a debate about how this country is still run by elitist conservatives who refuse to open up to people or change it's conservative laws. It just kept going back and forth. Honestly, I know and everyone here knows how much we need it but inreality if more people agreed to it we would have had it by now.

With this being said, I wonder if all this stress. If all these efforts to recruite people is all worth it? I feel as though I should just give up on it all and just live my life normally. Not have to worry about it. :?

Reconsider the approach you are taking when you talk to them about DREAM. First of all why don't we all talk about how we approach people here and give each other feedback as to what are some strategies we should consider?

nothing is gonna happen cause the dream training thing only happens in certain cities, not in all 50 states, also your friend is kinda right, liberal progressive groups have poured millions on dollars into health care reform and as on right , the conversatives are winning. and what do you think is gonna happen when immigration reform is on the table, there are corporations that benefit financially by you being illegal (this is no longer an ideological debate in some ways) so they will pour millions of dollars into everything from town hall meeting , to speeches, to ads , to paying off every republican and some democrats into voting against immigration reform, regardless if they think you're real american.

hmm thinking of writing an extensive letter to my state senators. Figured if some kind of reform happens then it will happen in general form, which would be nice. Hate to see families apart.

also came across this website:

There is a portion on this site where u can present your ideas. thinking of posting the current immigration situation. I think if everyone did the same or at least flooded with messages...wonder what reply we would get hmm.

Actually, some senators or reps might not be receptive to the idea of a Comprehensive package. As stated in my visit to a staffer's office, a piece meal approach is the way to go.

HA! You almost read my mind. Corporations save millions of dollars in under-paying employees. (Why do you think over-seas jobs were popular, now they're trying to put a hault on this since the American unemployment reached its double digits) Why hire a union when they know that every year they're going to ask for a raise. If you can hire someone who cannot complain about below minimum wage, for the exact same job.

Ugh, so disappointing.

Thanks for trying to make light of this. BUT if we can't even get health care reform going imagine immigration reform.

Also, I watched the video from that website and it also says not only do we pay a fine but we would also have to go back to the LINE. (By back of the line, I think he means going back to our birthplace and reapplying) Along with learning English, I don't know about you, but not only can I write in English but I can fluently speak it too. This is the ONLY language I can fluently speak.

Ugh, sorry you guys just really frustrated about all of this.

Have any of you considered the possibility that YOUR fate can be separate from that of your parents and siblings who do not match the criteria for this proposal. I suspect that many Americans do accept the proposition that as children you did not put yourself in this position. If your parents would accept the proposition that they can NEVER gain legal status from YOU the electorate may have a different reaction. Otherwise the incentive to continue coming here illegally with young children as well as having babies once they arrive remains.

That would not be fair. Legal immigrants have the RIGHT to sponsor immigrant relatives. That is in the law.
