Does anyone know if a persons status can be adjusted through this visa if they are undocumented at the moment?

Only through an immediate relative Permanent resident[depending on age] or a US citizen.A person's may be eligible to adjust status also if grandfathered under 245i.

Just to clarify a P1 visa is just a visa not a green card.When someone says "adjust status" it usually means to permanent residency.A person cannot change status in the US unless they have a current legal status that allows them to change status as well.

Well what I meant is, Can a person apply for a P1 visa and is it possible to get approved if you are undocumented here?

You can't change a visa status if you're not currently in status.

let me see if i could help you out so you are wondering about the p1 visa right......well i take it a relative you know is legal....and you are trying to be legal on behalf of them....well my suggestion to you is go visit a immigration lawyer and ask him/her that same question....my family and i are applyin for legal status under the 245i and the i589 well so far both are on their way to getin us legal.....by august under the i589 ill have my work permit (extremely happy!!!!!!) well before i get carried away go and speak to a lawyer about this and your case because no one here can give you the answer you are looking for like an immigration lawyer can....if you live in southern california send me a private message and ill give you the number to my lawyer but he is a bit expensive .....but it is well worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........

P1 visa is for athletes. It has nothing to do with a legal relative.

then dude......try it out omg!!! really schools will even pay for your tuition get with a good lawyer and go for it.....i believe that should be easier then any other relative visa application.....well good luck and well why don't you try and ask information at your consulate they might help you.....but since its a visa you might have to go back....to you place of orgin and ask for it there......but im not sure.....like i said the 1st time find a good lawyer....
