Gutierrez wants same-sex partner rights in immigration reform bill

Incorporating gay rights to CIR? As if passing both proposals separately is not hard enough.
This could get really tricky....

Hopes that foreign-born partners of gay and lesbian Americans could follow the same path to citizenship as heterosexual spouses got a boost Thursday when U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Chicago said he would fight to include such a proposal in the campaign for comprehensive immigration reform.
BTW guys...the article has two pages, so make sure you check it out.

Shiiiiit. I think it's important to include the LGBT community in this bill to make it all inclusive but this definitely complicates chances of passing a comprehensive bill, it's like hitting moderates and conservatives with a one-two punch. They're not going to like this.

That sounds like a big ass tent that's going to be hard to put up...

This thing just makes CIR more complicated.

makes it harder and most gay groups will support cir/dream anyway. this is why we don't win. we want it all and want it now. not only are those groups more or less already in the tent, we need to bring in those who aren't too pro-gay in the tent.

after cir becomes we can deal with this. maybe use the talk to bring in all gay groups and then throw them under the bus and have them stay for the battle.

Have some respect for other people, okay, the world is 98% hetero, but remember this is not a choice, people do not chose their sexuality, just like they do not chose their race. It is funny how people are okay with their own groups getting papers, but as soon as it comes to others, it is not important, they can wait.

Re: Gutierrez wants same-sex partner rights in immigration reform bill

we keep talking about pushing DREAM as a stand-only bill. this is what it takes. or do you rather fall short a few votes because a few policy makers couldn't support the gay issue? wouldn't it be better to get DREAM/CIR and then fight for the gay issue? look, if you are losing four people and you wil pass by 20 and it takes an additional week, then yeah. but when we can't afford to lose days/hours and every vote counts, we have to make deals. let him gutierrez fight for it, but do it for five minutes and so that gay groups support us. we do not need to fix the system system now.

and funny how we can throw those who are 35 and older under the bus and can't throw anyone else.

Everyone should be treated equally.

Well, maybe Gutierrez thinks that if we demand more, we'll end up settling for less (hence happy Republicans) which is just simple reform, what we wanted in the first place.

Long shot.

and that might work. just don't fight for it too long or hard. make them feel happy and that they got something.
