New Mexico DL --PLEASE help/advice
Hey guys,
I recently found out undocumented individuals can obtain a DLs in New mexico. I possess the following documents: Florida ID --Expires July 22, 2010 Passport (from home country) - Expired in 2006 ITIN International license along with a license from home country (all in English) Original birth certificate (in English) Bank/ATM cards (with and without picture) Anyone please tell me what else I need? Also, they are asking for 2 proof of New Mexico Residency...does any of you live out there or know how can I provide them an address to satisfy the requirement? Anyone done this before? any help or advice will be appreciated! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!! P.S. - Its sad how for something so small like a DL..we all have to suffer so damn much!! |
Re: New Mexico DL --PLEASE help/advice
read this: it will help you a lot!
http://www.txdreamactalliance.com/nm-license/ I still believe you need a valid passport in order to get the dl. I am not 100% sure. Btw; How did u get a Florida ID? |
Re: New Mexico DL --PLEASE help/advice
Thank you for the link. Some documents on the link being asked seemed like it was more from Mexico (ex: Mexican passport). I am assuming passports from other countries would be acceptable as well. I am Indian.
As for how did I get a FL ID... My father has an approved I-140 and I was covered until his case until now but I am now 21..on longer covered under his umbrella (sucks!) and also FL changed their rules..starting 2010, in order to obtain a FL DL, I-140 is no longer good enough. You must provide approved H1B documents..(which would be the next step)..but we cant apply for H1b until visa numbers are available and our lawyer said for our case, it wont be for the next 3 -4 years. Even though our paper work is filed..In the eyes of DHS, we r still undocumented. They really need to fix broken system. They say we have to get in line.. but even when u do "get in line", it takes FOREVER. We've spent over $10K in lawyer fees in the last 6 years..and I am now back to square 1. My American citizen bf and I were together for 3 years..we broke up as well.. so no chance there either.. life is a bitch!! (thanks for reading n letting me vent) |
Re: New Mexico DL --PLEASE help/advice
hey buddy....i am a dreamer from NY...and this past summer i did go down to New Mexico and did come back with a DL....It can definitely be done. Try to see if you can get a utility bill under your name down there, my dad has a SSN, but he put the bill under my name. That helped alot.

Nice, im sort Indian too:mrgreen: From what i have read/researched, you can use your [insert your Native Country] passport, except it CANT be expired! I am really sorry to hear this, and i know, it does takes forever. My parents have not spent over $10K yet, but the number will reach there soon.. My parents and I went to different lawyers, and we have two option 1) my grandmother need to get her Citizenship and then wait 7 years to get it approved or 2) wait for the Dream Act. Option 1 is cancelled, because my grandmother does not want to get her citizenship and option 2, well you know the situation. The crazy thing is that my grandmother could have prevented me from undocumented. All she had to do was sign my father name on a list, when she was getting her greencard, but no, she did not. All my uncles received their papers, except for my father. too much information lol That sucks, he could have helped you out. I am sorry hear this! Try to get back with him, if possible, just to get your papers. |

Hey
do you guys know, if a passport is a "must", i washed my passport, its still readable + the VISA (both not expired) is also readable, but the microship from the carton will not work any more. I have a birth certificate, old FL DL (expired 10 month ago), ITIN Nr, and of course soon the stuff for the NM Residency. Do they accept only the BC or do i need in every case the passport? |
Re: New Mexico DL --PLEASE help/advice
I just recently received my license. Here are a few things that are not mentioned in the Texas Dream Act Alliance Guide:
-Notary service for documents is provided FREE at most banks. You will still need to translate the documents yourself. -Try to go to a 3rd party private MVD if you can. Not having to make an appointment and the shorter wait time is well worth the extra cost. -You do not need to have your own vehicle or one that is registered in NM to take a road test. You can take your road test at various driving schools which will provide the vehicle for you. This will cost extra (ex. $60 for road test instead of just $25). Good luck! |
