Nursing Clinical advice needed

So I'm just so lucky to get into nursing school this year, but I would really like some advice from you guys who have been through nursing school or are still in school. I really want to do well and show them I care no matter what my status is.

Like what obstacles did you face at school or clinicals?
Did you tell anyone about your status?
How about scholarships for nursing students...did you apply for any?
Anything you would like to share would be great and useful.

I would especially like info on clinicals and what I should know beforehand.
I start in the fall.
Thanks!

I'm currently in my last semester of nursing school. It is very tough. I've spoken to a current graduate and she's had multiple degrees imaginable and she basically said nursing is the most difficult. Hey, I'm in my last semester, and I had problems. Focus and studying can get you through. I would buy an Nclex review book right away so you can practice questions before your exams. Books like Lippincott is awesome.
Clinical is where you will probably have an awesome time, but in my opinion you should research on your clinical instructor before you sign up for them.

There is always and order to things usually its always Airway, Breathing and then Circulation, you know the ABC, You have to learn to prioritize that is the key to Nursing and also nursing exams. Also Safety Always think about safety for u and the patient. DONT LEAVE the bed up in clinical thats very important put it down cuz if the patients tryning to get out of bed and he/she falls your out of nursing school, also put all the rails up except one if the patient is ambulatory. BE very observant every time u go into ur patients room, Know what the patient is on and what the patient is getting, if the patient is getting oxygen note how much then check it in the patient chart to make sure its at the correct level , Also if the patient is on a foley catheter ALWAYS check the urine output as soon as you get into the room, check it periodically to make sure the patient is urinating cuz if there not thats a big problem. PAY attention to whats going into the patient and Whats coming out of the patient. Document everything you did for the patient and whatever new thing is going on with the patient (if its not documented you DID NOT do it simple as that) that way u get use to writing notes. If you feel something is wrong with ur patients RUN and get ur professor dont leave it alone. Before giving patients meds always do Your own vital signs dont depend on the aids they get lazy and sometimes write watever, Cover ur ass cuz its going to be your degree/license on the line. (Also if your not familiar with a med look it up before you give it b/c you might need to follow certain guidelines) Don't be shy ask questions your there to learn. AS someone mentioned Get nursing CDs that you can take practice tests on that way u get use to taking nursing style exam. HTH
