Common App
I'm applying to college this year. For the common app there's a part where you have to fill in what type of visa you have.
I came into USA as a tourist so I have a tourist visa that still haven't expire yet but soon on Dec. So there's two option. Should I choose : 1) B-2 Tourist or 2) I do not hold a US non-immigrant visa Does it matter? Will it affect me? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Common App
yea u might want to talk to a lawyer because i know normally you would apply for an F1 visa to go to college and the college will help you get it but i believe they might have changed the law and now you can't apply for the F1 visa while in the US (not sure though). you might have to go back and then apply for F1. But I would def talk to a lawyer since u r still in legal status and see what your options are.

For college application, I tried that one too when I still had a valid visa. The school told me to get an I-20 (student visa) |
Re: Common App
you might have to put DO not hold or whatever it says. You should never lie by the way. Will it affect you, depends on the school. Regardless, all schools will consider you an out of state/ international student.

Re: Common App
Just don't lie and you're good. I put in I had a tourist visa and I got the expected results...
1. Go get the student visa. 2. No financial aid 3. Co-op school, you can't come 4. No in-state tuition I'm going to a non co-op school without a student visa, without financial aid, without in-state tuition, but at least the school is fully aware of my situation and they're cool with it as long as I can pay the hefty bills. If you're very smart, apply to ivy league schools and other need blind schools (I think that's the term, I'm not positive). I was wait-listed or rejected from these schools but you might have better luck. These schools will do whatever it takes for you to be able to attend them regardless of your financial situation. edit: These are the need-blind admission schools: * Amherst College * Dartmouth College * Harvard University * MIT * Princeton University * Yale University ..good luck! |
