Life just got a little worse

To attend my university, I need to provide proof of health insurance or sign up for their health insurance. I was under my mother's plan as a dependent without a SSN, but under the new health care laws I need to provide them with my SSN. At the end of this year I will no longer be insured and will no longer be allowed to be a full time student (3 or more courses). Now I'm gonna have to finish my degree with 2 classes per semester. I was going to be done in May 2012, now it's 2013 with summer classes.

Sigh.

why can't you sign up to their health insurance.

I know it sucks, I had to do it, costs me an additional 1k and I never use it, it feels more like a glorified discount card, but at least I am able to be a full time student and get more work done.

What state are you in? I would like to research the laws and find some possibilities for you.

I'm in Massachusetts. To sign up under the school health insurance, I have to apply through a website that specifically asks for SSN. I'll call the school and ask if there's a way around this, I'll also take a look at the ehealthinsurance website. Thank you guys.

international students don't have a SSN number, but they also need to sign up for health insurance, there has to be something available. good luck.
