No sponsoring families even after becoming a permanent resident.

Why?

Well that shit's in 15 yrs and by that time we probably won't even need to (CIR). And quite frankly it's the Dreamers that deserve legal status more than anyone else.

We can probably even switch up no sponsorship for increasing the age cap at 35.

How do you like that DA_USER?

Let's face it. Reid is not interested in changing the bill yet again. They just want to pass the house version as is. Anyways you can't sponsor under the status of Dream act, and wait to sponsor a sibling as a green card holder is 20 years (you cannot sponsor parents as a LPR) even if your parents were to leave and wait outside US b/c of a 10 year ban, it would take at least 15 years to get them into the country again.

I know it will never work. Just wanted to give some folks a sense of hope in case this issue is taken up next year in the new Congress.

I'll do one better.

We'll call it the "bait n switch."

Dreamers get on the path to residency and when they are successfully on the path to citizenship, their parent(s) MUST return to their country of origin within 5 years.

It's an ol' swith-a-roo. Trading low-skill parents for the rights to retain their US educated/brainianc kids.

Most parents of Dreamers would be willing to go back if it meant their kid had a fair chance
at USC.

And what would happen if the parents have children who aren't old enough to live on their own? Just leave them here? One of my siblings is a USA citizen who isn't old enough to live on her own yet. Think things through before you post.

Yeah, plus how would you enforce that ? I think telling the public and Senators that realistically there isn't a way for a DREAMer to Sponsor their parents for the next couple of decades makes more sense.
If you look at the comment sections on articles about DREAM ( or just talk to people) there are huge misconceptions about who/how people can immigrate.

I think some of the main myths to clear up, that would increase public support --
1) Undocumented youth can not go join the military
2) Marrying a U.S. citizen doesn't mean an undocumented person can adjust their status automatically.
3) People can't get their paperwork and immediately go bring their relatives in.
4) There is a no legal way for undocumented young people to get their immigration paperwork taken care of in the U.S.

Lets face it, changing the bill will put us a few weeks (that we don't have) behind schedule. If we were to change age cap in the senate version of the house bill, we would have to go through conference committee (2 days - 2 weeks) and two more up or down votes (at least a week to schedule a vote).

The congress ends on jan 2nd (and they really dislike to work around and after holidays).

Under the current law, you have sponsor if you are PR, but not conditional but this is 10 years down the road.

35 and/or Retro for folks who have 2 years in college like in past bills and I am happy.

If I fall in love with a Dreamer 10 years from now, then she can sponsor with me also.

Oh man, come on, at some point you have to realize you're beating a dead horse with these kinds of arguments.

The age cap isn't moving. Period. Move on.
