[AppearsDREAM Act Will Get Senate Vote Next Week, Activists Determined to Get Passage

http://news.firedoglake.com/2010/12/...o-get-passage/

Check below in BOLD

With the House on the board, Reid decided to ditch the Senate version of the DREAM Act in order to pass the House version. That way, the chambers can avoid reconciliation and get the bill straight to the president’s desk. In order to do that, they had to table the existing Senate version of the bill, which was originally scheduled for a vote today.

Democrats asked for unanimous consent to table it, but Republicans blocked that. Of course.

Note the GOP’s gambit — they’ve been screaming that DADT and DREAM shouldn’t have a vote until they get their tax cut giveaway. Democrats say, “Okay, we’re not going to have a vote on DREAM until next week.” And what do Senate GOPers do? They demand a vote.

So Republicans are only against a DREAM vote if Democrats are for it. Once Democrats are against a DREAM vote, then Republicans are for it.

Reid called Republicans Bluff Again, most importantly per above once the Senate votes on D.A. "House Passed Version", it would go straight to Mr. President Obama's Desk!, Now lets push this through , continue to call, Dreamers!!

I read this earlier in a different article, if I find it again I'll post it.

so whats the current count on who will vote yes this time around next week, can anybody figure this out and post it? Also, who are the senators saying"I'm not voting yay this time around because I'm unhappy with what they took out."... can we focus on them and urge them to vote yes??? <---- if this version is barely making it through, there is no sense to vote nay because you wanna see a better pass, that is never gonna happen so might as well vote yay now.

I'll tell you that I learn new things every day regarding how bills move in congress. I wasn't aware that a bill that one chamber passed could be directly voted on by the other chamber to avoid any further deliberations in the joint committee. Also, is the vote to table a bill require a popular majority for passage?

Further to your above, Dream Activist, has compiled below TARGET LIST

http://action.dreamactivist.org/dreamtarget/

DREAM Act Target List - Updated 12/9/10
The week of DREAM Act is finally here and we need to step it up right now. We are focusing on calls all thisweek and need you to really step it up here.

How to call congress: If you have never called a member before don't stress. It is pretty easy:

1. Dial the switchboard 1-866-587-3023
2. Ask operator for a member from the target list
3. When receptionist picks up leave a message urging the member to vote yes on DREAM.

Below is a detailed target list, you can easily call all of the members and leave a quick message of support, if you can’t for whatever reason call everyone then pick at least 5 from each list and call them. Call the switchboard () and ask for the following members:

Senate Democrats:
Conrad (ND)
Dorgan (ND)
McCaskill (MO)
Webb (VA)
Warner (VA)
Landrieu (LA)
Pryor (AR)
Tester (MT)
Hagan (NC)

Senate Republicans:

Murkowski (AK)
Hutchison (TX)
Brownback (KS)
Kirk (IL)
Bennett (UT)
Voinovich (OH)
Snowe (ME)
Collins (ME)
Lemieux (FL)
Lugar (IN)

+++++++++++++

As for the breakdwon of whom is voting YAY & NAY, if we had time we would "poll" each Senator and try to put together an empricial model, but too much thinking/energy would be taking away from calling. LETS CONCENTRATE ON CALLING, AND DON'T PROVOKE A CONVERSATION THAT LEADS TO ALOT OF THINKING BUT NO ACITIVISM ON D.A.,,,

Not even, the Republicans just wanted to see the Senate Dream Act fail. We need to increase our calls and faxes. Let's not have any regrets about this opportunity.

You are a free man bro, if you want to call Hatch, call there also, I always call there and bug the staffer, but I don't understand , "Dream Act was originally written by Hatch, let him know we want him to have courage and support his own legislation". As for Lugar, see it as a friendly reminder to Mr. Lugar to support D.A..

What I don't understand is that why would Reid try to pass the House Version?

If I understand correctly, the House version doesn't include the new stuff he added in S.3993 like lower age to 30, 10 years legal status and etc...

If he couldn't get the Republican votes on the new (watered-down) version, then how in the world is he going to get the Republican votes on the House. version??
