Utah senators expected to vote no on DREAM Act
http://www.fox13now.com/news/kstu-ut...,2777030.story
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Sen. Orris Hatch was an original co-sponsor of the DREAM Act, a bill that was stalled Thursday in Congress. Hatch changed his stance as opposed to the immigration-based bill after he said it was being used as a partisan ploy. Sen. Bennett is also expected to vote it down. The DREAM Act would grant hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children a chance to gain legal status if they enroll in college or join the military. Local supporters of the DREAM Act met in Salt Lake City Thursday to formulate their next move. So far they have rallied outside Senator Hatch's Salt Lake office and held vigils outside Jim Matheson's office. Despite Matheson voting no on the bill, it passed in the House anyway. The DREAM Act vote was tabled while Republicans in the Senate were more concerned with the tax deal they struck with President Obama. Hatch released the following statement concerning the DREAM Act: "Jamming these bills through during a lame duck session of Congress when we haven't yet acted to prevent one of the largest tax increases in history is not how Utahns want Congress to operate. It's time to stop the politically-motivated show votes, and focus on our economy and getting the American people back to work." They wont support it until they pass the tax cuts, anyway keep calling them! |
Re: Utah senators expected to vote no on DREAM Act
We have a week left in the lameduck
Later, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, released the first version of legislation to implement the negotiated deal and said the Senate would vote Monday to open debate on it. ^^^ Hopefully they'll get taxes off the senate schedule early next week, then move on to D.A., I know Republicans will prop still oppose it, keep these thoughts on hold for now, Concentrate on calling http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/12/09/tax.plan/?hpt=T2 I am going to call and try to sound out Hatch's staffer, what if taxes are out of the way, would he support his own legislation ? |
Re: Utah senators expected to vote no on DREAM Act
After the tax deal is done, I believe more Senators will support legislation.

Re: Utah senators expected to vote no on DREAM Act
those are all weak excuses.... what does passing this before tax cuts have ANY effect whatsoever on how they are enacted?
if you disprove those excuses they will find other no matter how small. The reality is that their core motive is hatred that they are lobbying from their hate filled constituents. |

Do the rep want the tax cuts to pass(obviously they do) or a deal to be secure so they can discuss other issues such as DA.

Democrats are the ones that are going to hold up the Tax plan they dont like the deal Obama made with the republicans. No compromise no solutions that is what is wrong with politics today personal party reins over doing the countries work.

Moreover, that was a deal that Obama negotiated without even bringing in Democrats on the hill. So what this amounts to is that no Democrat can voice opposition to an insane tax policy or it will be considered the Democrats' fault that nothing passes through congress? This twisted logic is like a situation where a wife gets beaten by her husband for not doing the dishes, and then a neighbor says the problem is not the husband who is doing the beating, but the wife forgetting the dishes. |
Re: Utah senators expected to vote no on DREAM Act
Does anybody know why Melendez voted against the bill?
