Hutchison Opposed to DREAM Because of Supposed "Chain Migration" Issue

Saw this excellent post from Greg Siskind's blog. For those that don't know, Greg is one of the preeminent immigration lawyers in the country and of course, a DREAM supporter.

It looks like Hutchison, and I suspect, many other GOPers are clinging hard to the bugaboo of "chain migration." Those targeting Hutchison need to mention the practical difficulties in petitioning family members under our current legal immigration system.

She knows there won't be a chain migration she's just trying to make any excuse she can to avoid voting for DA!!!!!! She's afraid she might get a primary challenge from the tea Baggers.

I think she should be worried that a DEM will take her seat since theres allot of Hispanics in Texas.

But what percent of them can vote? There are a lot of hispanics in Arizona too, they out number citizens in areas where Arpaio gets elected

Exactly. But hopefully this "cooling" off period for DREAM will allow the GOPers to have all their concerns addressed so that they'll no longer have cover. They'll still bitch and complain though about anything and everything.

If you're going to make phone calls to Hutchison (which y'all still should), that's what you should be focusing on rather than simply saying, "please support the DREAM Act."

Hutchison, if you vote against Dream Act, I'll work my ass off to make sure that you lose the next GOP Primary/election.

She knows. All of them know that chain migration is practically null under all the versions of Dream Act. What were most lawmakers before they became elected membes of government? F****ing lawyers! Cut out the bs; you know how to read a damn bill; you know what it can and cannot do; you know exactly who can and who cannot benefit from this legislation. Are you effing kidding me? This was the reason Reid and Durbin et al, caved and changed the act???? This is why they excluded beneficiaries over 30 (yes, including DA user)?? No one is buying this lady. Try harder or at least be more creative with your excuses.

Exactly, want to reach them, and publicize and make the voters, those that can vote right now understand how unrealistic it would be to expect chain migration from DREAM Act beneficiaries.

They are spreading fear to the public in order to justify their stance on immigration, they are trying to get people railed up about chain migration and saying each immigration could petition 179 people, they are scaring the voters into being opposed to the DREAM Act by targeting what they might be worried about.

So lets also try to target the voters somehow and in a public fashion and try to make them understand how the republicans are instigating fear out of thin air.

Will we be able to eventually petition people, yes, 13 years from now and they have to go through the current legal process as it exists then, whether it be shorter or longer, could we petition 179 people... is it even realistic considering the time frame most petitions that are not immediate family members will take, 13 years for us to attain USC status and what... maybe 20-25 additional years maybe even more if there are a lot of petitions that will take place with a very stringent limit on how many will get processed.

Also who is an immediate family member:
- a son and daughter under 21 years of age, seriously how many people have been in the US since before 16 and have children not born in the US.
-Parents, I don't know about you guys but I only have 2 parents.
-Spouse... you cannot be a polygamist to benefit under the dream act, so count on one spouse, 13 years later after you attain USC status.
