Reid threatens post-Christmas session, Hoyer sees business spilling into next week

Members of Congress should hold off on booking December travel.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid warned Tuesday he’s willing to bring the Senate back after Christmas to resolve unfinished business in the lame-duck session.

“I hate to report all this to you, but there’s still Congress after Christmas,” Reid told reporters. “So if Republicans think because they can stall and stall and stall and if we take a break, we’re through -- we're not through. Congress ends on Jan. 4, so we’re going to continue working on this stuff until we get it done.”

Meanwhile in the House, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said unfinished business may spill into next week, though he’s “hopeful” the House will wrap up by the 18th. “Hopeful is not a synonym for optimism,” he added.

The House still has to vote on the tax-cut bill, a ban on the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, and a resolution to fund government agencies.

Reid ticked off a number of priorities he would like to address before this congress officially ends in January: The START Treaty, the DREAM Act, the repeal of “don’t ask don’t tell” and other legislative matters.

The Senate is expected to vote on the tax cut tonight. Reid would not say what time he would hold the vote, but post-cloture time expires after midnight. As soon as the vote is complete, he would introduce the START Treaty on the floor.

Reid said he’d also attempt to pass funding for the federal government at the same time START is considered. He said debate over continuing funding for the government could occur through the weekend.

Yet with Christmas Eve quickly approaching, Reid threatened that the Senate will have to continue to work perhaps after the holiday in order to finish all of the business ahead.

“My only statement here is to my Republican friends: We’re going to complete the work that we’re going to have to do here,” said Reid. “I want to get out of here as soon as we can, but we’re not going to walk away from any of the work that we have to do.”

Let it come when it comes in as long as it does. Reid is moving aside everything that Republicans or any senator can use to block or be against DREAM. Once Reid moves aside any excuse to vote "no" or try to kill the bill because "other affairs need to be taken care of first", that's when Reid will bring up DREAM. He/they have worked very hard and strategically have planned their every move to not let DREAM falter.

Then the republicans will bring out the old excuse...the border is not secured.

This is good Reid "held the line" , and light some fire under Republicans to get moving on these issues, now lets conitune to call, Dreamers, call, call!! We have to support Reid by letting congress know there is work to do, mainly pass the Dream Act, one of the most effective ways to do this is by your voice, now call, Dreamers Call, call senators on our Target List

I hope these sob's just get tired and want to go home and just vote yes on the DA just to get it over and done with and can happily go enjoy their tax breaks in St. Barts.

Lets hope that is the case, but lets help push the cirucumstance that there is "still work to do", by ringining the phone, Lets Call Dreamers!! I know that, if phones are not rininging then it indicates that work is done and lets go home, but if the phones are rining then it indicates there is still work to be accomplished., now continue calling.!!!!

it they get tired and want to go home, voting no on DREAM would accomplish that alot faster than voting yes.
