As President Barack Obama begins the second half of his first term in office, he should not ignore the Latino vote and must fulfill his campaign promise to pass a comprehensive immigration reform. His policy of creating jobs is unattainable without embracing the economic benefits of immigration.

According to a recent report by the Center for American Progress, "Comprehensive immigration reform will generate $1.5 trillion in gross domestic product, accumulated over 10 years, so that good quality jobs for all workers will increase."

Besides creating jobs for the defense of this legislation, the President could express his gratitude to the Latino voters who voted for him in 2008 and has also helped the Democratic Party to maintain its majority in the United States Senate in the midterm elections.

The President can point to the xenophobic attitude of the majority Republican Party. But the loyalty of the growing Hispanic community to the Democratic Party will only come through courting the Latino electorate in key states.

In its analysis, "Election 2010 Fact Sheet," the Pew Hispanic Center indicates that the four swing states that Obama won in 2008 with a high percentage of Latino voters: Colorado 13%, New Mexico 38%, 15% of Florida and Nevada 14%. And Obama will need those votes that are crucial to winning a second term.
If the President needs a reminder of the importance of the Latino vote, just talk to two of his colleagues in the Democratic Party who just won reelection by the Latino vote: the President of Senate Majority Harry Reid Nevada and Sen. Michael Bennett in Colorado.

Granted this is not new. However, the power of a Latino voting bloc may not carry the day. A multi-faceted concerted effort to garner support for DREAM must occur simultaneously.

Can McCain or Hillary please run again in 12? Obama just isn't up for immigration reform. I'm starting to think that we would've had better chance of passing DA if McCain was elected. McCain, Hillary Obama all supported DA back in 08 but since Obama became president he never even tried anything.

If any other candidate supports DA besides Obama, we should tell our USC friends/family to vote for them, NOT Obama. Obama really isn't going to do anything until 2016, end of his second term presidency.

You seriously think McCain would've accomplished DA in his first two years? Maybe he would've, but he would've also shipped you to Iran right after to fight a war...I think now we have learnt our lesson as you suggest. Hillary and Obama are the same...She's a politician too. Chances her, we would've been in the same situation had she won the nomination and defeated McCain.

This is a chart of the ages of Presidents when they got elected. McCain is 74 now. Although other factors are key, age is one of the must have to be presidents. What he can do is, endorse someone else, our worst case scenario would be Tim Romney

We're now 100% sure that Obama does little to nothing. You can't say for sure that Hillary will be as bad as Obama.

There are many ppl like myself who'll join the army if we had the chance. McCain passing CIR and being able to go to Iran will be better than my positio right now.
