ab540 question!
 

how long does it take for the status of non resident to change to resident on the application for college at a CSU. i sent my ab540 form along with high school transcript and the other paper work last week more exatly last tuesday, so its been just over a week and it still says non resident when i login in to the school because i will be transferring this fall and i have a tuition fee of 7,414 right now and it should be like half of that due to ab540. is anyone going through this process right now?

You should really get in touch with the Registrar and confirm they've received your high school transcript and AB540 form. I was able to do the whole process through email at a UC so I'm not sure how responsive your CSU is electronically. Just give them a visit.

I remember when I did that, I did it on the last minute, it took like 2 weeks, and that was when I kept rushing them to do it. They were nice about it, when I went to the registrar and requested it to be processed asap.

well i just checked into the school to see my fee and it has now been cut to 2,950, so i guess they have received my paper work. however it still says non-resident, should i be worry about this or just let it be?

Very good question. The CSU system takes a while to process the information. But, I think your school handled the issue quickly. If you are worried about the non-resident categorization, call the registrar. EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE.

You will be classified as a non-resident, but will be exempt from paying non-resident tuition

I will be going through this process pretty soon. Any chance you can answer a few questions and help out a fellow dreamer? Or anyone who may have answers to my questions :)

I am planing on transferring to a CSU this up coming 2012 spring semester. Registration begins next month for that term. The problem is I am not sure how to get started with the whole process.

In what order should I do the following, and if I am missing a step let me know. This is what I understand.


*Have the following paperwork; high school transcripts, community college transcripts, and AB540 affidavit*

1) Apply online using CSUMentor (leave ssn blank and make sure I select the proper residency for AB540)
2) After filling out application; send in high school, community college, and affidavit to the school.
3) and wait...

What else am I missing? Is this the correct way to approach the registration and in that order?

Thanks for your help guys, I am really excited to transfer and continue my education, regardless of my status. I am very motivated and nothing can stop me. I will stay strong.

I went to the school to apply for AB540. I did it on the spot. They processed it on the spot. My tuition decreased about $6k with just one piece of paper.

Hello,

Apply through the CSU Mentor. In terms of transcripts, I am certain that all you need to send is your community college transcripts electronically. After that, you wait to get the Ab 540 status arranged if you qualify. In terms of the SSN, I think I also left it blank. Don't worry about that detail.

I see. When I was doing some research around the web, I came across the affidavit for San Jose State (which is where I am applying) and it said that I had to have my high school transcripts

I looked around at other campus' affidavit and had the same thing about high school transcripts. Maybe they just put that on there in case they want extra reassurance that you qualify for AB540.

One more question. By sending my college transcripts electronically, do you mean I should scan them and send it to the via email? Or how would I do this? I figured I would have to send it in the mail. Thanks again for your help :)
