Is 150 pesos an hour in Mexico good pay?
So here's the deal...I have a background in education. I was looking around on a Mexican employment website. I found one job that is looking for people with native english skills and an education background to teach in the center of the country.
I talked to him on the phone today. He said it is near a foreign car factory and they need people to teach some of the employers English It starts at 150 pesos an hour, and you can go full time. Is it a good deal considering it is Mexico ? And of course it means giving up on the DREAM. But who knows, if the pay is good it might be worth it. |

I realize that. I know it is average here, so wouldn't that mean it is very good in mexico? I mean could you get a house a car and live decent?

that's decent pay if you can go full time but central mexico could get pricey depending on population density mostly.

Agree with Ali and Chessmaster. But not Tacvbo. 150 pesos is the equivalent of less than fifteen an hour. More like 12 or 13 and maybe not even that. No one took into account the fact that the exchange rate is no longer at ten. Today's exchange rate is averaging 11 or 12. But making that an hour with pretty good hrs, it's amazing! People sometimes make that in a week over there, no joke. And don't just take into account the cost of living. Check into the violence over there. What's the point in getting the cash if you're not gonna be alive to spend it? From what I've heard my family say, look into Queretaro. It's supposed to be wicked to live there. Acambay is still pretty safe. Obviously anything north of the capital and its surrounding area is unsafe. You should also look into private schools. You get paid way better teaching English in a private school. I was actually thing about December too...oh, and make sure this guy you're talking to is legit.

Back in 2003, my dad earned about 2,400 pesos per "quincena." Thats 240 dollars for 15 days of work. And that was the minimum wage. He had a bachelors in Agriculture and worked for the government btw. We lived sortof good with that....but we decided to embark on this trip.
