URGENT Guys ! Is there anyone reading this that came clean to their employer ! ??

Ladies and Gent's not to sound like broken record, but I am facing a tough situation at work, have told them I would provide a TWIC Card, which I cannot process due to the lack of SSN #, is there anyone in the forum that has told their boss of their undocumented status, if so, how did it go ? Did they offer help/sponsorship ? Or did you do the independent contractor route and work for the company ? Or did they just default to the story of our-lives , "feel your unfortunate situation , but business is business , sorry ", any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Thanks, !

Really depends. Where do you work? I'm assuming its a big name company going by how anxious you sound.

Hi there, well as far as big company, the Company specialzes in shipping abroad , this company does have a History of helping their affiliates acquire work permits, I know of a particular individual whom the company is currently petitioning, what that means for me , I don't know. Let me have your comments anything is appreciated at this point.

Thanks,

Well as far as I'm concerned, I haven't worked for a big company with many employees. I just work at a small office and my boss knows from the beginning about the issue. Regarding your case, it seems like you have to come clean. I've read on here in the past that the independent contractor option is something you can bring up to your employer. I'm sure if your boss has no problem with your status than he will come up with a solution. It would be better if you do some research on how to become an independent contractor and propose this to him/her so you can settle everything with the human resource department. Just be clear to him/her how passionate you are to work at the place and how much you still have to contribute. I'm not sure whether we're eligible for employer sponsorship but you never know, he/she can definitely be the type who would be willing to help out his employees. good luck.

As far number of employees , we are small can be counted on all fingers and toes, let me research this further and get a game plan for something.

I think there's really no choice but to come clean since to obtain a TWIC card, they ask you for your immigration papers. My friend who works at the airport had to send in their birth certificate, ssc, proof of legal status, police background checks, etc. They take this really serious. Is your job desirable? If they can prove that they can't find a qualified legal person to fill the spot, then I think you would have a high chance of being petitioned.

You may have a great chance at a petition. My question to others is the following: how would anyone manage to get back in after leaving to do Consular Processing assuming the person petitioned isn't eligible for Adjustment of Status, which is almost always the case?

Bump, I could not come up with courage to tell my boss, !! It is frustrating to him because I have put this off for so long and it is getting to the point of frustrating him. How do you suggest I approach this topic and let the boss know. It is not fair to him and in insight this is not fair to me either because I look like an idiot , just putting this off and I stay quiet and avoid engaging him in anything that might bring the topic up, any of your comments are helpful thanks.

Be straightforward. Honesty is all you can have going for you. Better to go down as an honest illegal immigrant than a shifty one, for your own sake.

Ask to meet with him in private and admit that the reason why you can't get a card is because of your legal status. Do make clear that you're grateful for the chance to have worked with him. Be respectful. If he gets angry, do your best to stay calm and maintain some dignity; he can't take that away from you. If he's sorry but unable to do work with you, thank him again and part amicably. If he's willing to continue to work with you, well, problem solved. :)
