My experience back in Korea

Hey Dreamies,

I just came to read how far the DA has progressed. It is such a disappointment that nothing has been done to relieve innocent undocumented children.
I lived in US for about 14 years and saw this disappointing cycle for so many years.
When I was in US, I was depressed that I wasn't able to get any job after graduating from University. Actually, I worked as a cook, dishwasher, waiter, and a sales person, earning minimum wage under the table. I've been longing and tantalized for DA to be passed for so many seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and years.

Those days are over.
I came back to Korea March 15 to actualize my dream.
As a Korean male, I enlisted in an army to serve for my country for 2 years.
It is not that bad as I thought, because I am well respected and valued here than when I was in America. Everyone wants to be my friend. I have about 17 months left in military, but I think I can hang on to it.
My future plan is to work in financial sector, especially in stock market.
What do you guys think about your country? I was afraid before I left the US, but I realized that life still goes on after I am back in my country.

Good for you. I plan on leaving after college. I'm curious that how much do you get pay for your military serves?

That sucks about conscription, fortunately my country doesn't require it anymore. Life does go on though doesn't it? :) Many of us here are ready to leave too. My parents are strongly against it but whatever lol next spring for me

like $5 a month and a pack of cigarettes? You don't get paid for military, it's mandatory to serve for 2 yrs.

First, it's good to hear that you are doing well in Korea. I am also considering moving back to Korea after 1 year of saving up. Just like you, I will have to go to the army, but that is the least of my worries. I am afraid of the culture shock and competitiveness in the job market there. Let's keep in touch so in case I do go back, I want to know someone in Korea that I can relate to and hopefully start a new friendship.

If Mexico's security were as good as it is in the US, I would not be here.

Thanks for coming back and keeping us updated! I think what keeps us from going back to our countries is fear. Fear that we won't be able to get a job or life is hard outside America, the 10 year ban, and not going outside our "comfort zone". However, it's really up to what you make of it.

Good luck achieving your dreams in Korea. I'm sure you'll do great!
