Angry Letter to the Senate Minority Leader about 2010 Senate vote
 

This may sound angry, but with how the DREAM Act has been treated by hypocritical senators by both parties, I wanted to air out my frustration.

I know he won't read it, but we should all send these kinds of letters to all of our opponents to show them that we do exist and their actions affect us.



Dear Senate Minority Leader,

I know you have been in the Senate for a very long time now. More than one person should hold office in my opinion.

After all this time, I would expect you to have developed a love for this country and its future. But unfortunately, you have chosen to be the leader of a caucus that is unprecedentedly abusing the filibuster. You have required 60 vote thresholds on almost every bill the Senate Majority has put forward. Even though a bill may have the majority of the Senate support, it can't pass because of your dealings with your caucus.

In 2010, you didn't allow Republican Senators that had supported and had actually co-sponsored the DREAM Act years past to support it because at the end of the day, it was your hand that made them not vote for it. You continue to betray your oath of office in the sense that you put special interests, especially corporations and lobbyists that fill your campaign and campaigns of your candidates.

I am someone who could have benefited from the DREAM Act and could have been a good student and go on to college where I could have gotten a good education and found a good paying job. Afte all, this is my country and I love it as much as you do. It is not my fault that I was brought when I was a kid. My father chose that, not I. I hope one day you realize the immoral mistake you made when you literally told your caucus to oppose the DREAM Act.

I don't know how men like you sleep at night. You are corrupt and heartless.

Please explain. I am expecting that you will hit me with some sort of Iran-Contra-like information that was hidden but will be revealed. What is it you know about his role that we don't?

Yeah I don't agree with that part either. Many of these Republican senators who sponsored the bill in the past and voted no in December back stabbed all Dreamers and immigrants that voted for them.

McCain = Old fart who is still upset that Obama beat him and doesn't want to hand him another legislative victory

Hatch = Fucktard who would sell his own children to buy votes

Snowe & Collins = Bitches who are a disgrace to all mothers and women out there.

I understand you guys are frustrated, but can we be careful with our choice of words? If we're going to request understanding of our plight from others, let's be willing to give the same respect to other marginalized groups, whom we can find within our own dreamer community. Thanks

Sorry if I offended you. The reality is that we will never get the understanding of our plight, let alone 60 votes. These clowns deserve these words.

This is common sense! Party leaders of both parties make sure their members "HOLD" the line and DON'T vote for a bill that would benefit the party in the majority.

Also, the DREAM Act received a majority vote on cloture, so if both party leaders had agreed to move to cloture, then the DREAM Act would have passed by a majority vote. BUT ever since Obama won the white house and Democrats had historic majorities in the House and Senate, the Republicans in the Senate all of a sudden started abusing the filibuster.

We need to change our strategy and make it personal. We need to travel to DC and talk to these Senators, whether they meet us or not. We need to tell them our story and show them that we deserve an opportunity to be part of this country.

We could win the House again, but the Senate will always be our road block. We need a new way to get to 60 votes.

We need to use websites like this one to organize, make state leaders of the DREAM Act movement. We need to organize!!!

I want to start this movement once I get a car. Right now I am very limited, but once I have my car, I want to start doing protests and showing myself out there. I don't care what may happen to me because if ALL dreamies united across the country, we would change minds and spread the message of the DREAM Act which is fairness and commonsense legislation that will help this country.

We also need to separate ourselves from the broader immigration debate. We need to do this in order to show people that the DREAM Act is about fairness and not about amnesty.

God, I wish we would be more active in the "Taking Action" forum than the "News" forum. We also need to use Facebook and other websites to stay connected.

I see why you chose those words. Believe me, I was as frustrated as you are when I saw the vote tally. We lost five Democrats and many more Republicans that had previously supported the DREAM Act.

I think that we should stop waiting for the next election or the next voting on the DREAM Act.

We need to campaign to align allies now and get ready for a vote in a few years or so. We need to continue to show who we are and what it means to us to see the DREAM Act become reality.

We need to advocate every single Senator, even the most conservative. And not take for granted our supporters.

I intend on meeting Senator Durbin and working with him to get to 60 whenever they take the bill up again. Of course, we must not waste our time on meaningless votes when the Republicans have the majority in the House.

The DREAM Act should OUR cause because it is OURS!

We need to stop being procrastinators and call every day, or every week. Send cards to these Senators to show them that even though they chose to oppose the DREAM Act, we still have hope that they will come to their senses.

I WANT TO CHANGE THE STATUS QUO AND FINALLY PUT INTO USE OUR ENERGY AS ACTIVISTS! NO ONE ELSE WILL DO IT FOR US! THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF US DREAMIES OUT THERE! WE NEED TO UNITE!

TO UNITE AND USE OUR UNITED FORCE IN A DISCIPLINED STRATEGY.
