Credit Score with ITIN
 

Hi guys,

I know this has come up before and I researched the forum but I didn't find a satisfactory answer...


any dreamers out there with a credit card with ITIN? Were you able to get a credit score? I called equifax but they just told me that I CANNOT get a credit score without a SSN... is this guy wrong? Or is it true?


I have 0 credit history. I am getting rejected from all these store credit cards... dunno how I am suppose to build my credit score... anyone attempted this?

I was able to get a credit card with capital one, by mailing in my request and providing my ITIN. I have attempted to obtain my credit score, but was unable to without a SSN. From my understanding, however, you do build credit, and I recently received my free annual credit report by mailing in the application, as opposed to doing it online. The only credit company that sent it to me was Experian. Transunion and Equifax both requested proof of SSN. It's just a report of your credit payment history, however. To get the score, Experian indicated that proof of SSN was needed.

dang so, it's basically impossible to get a credit score? We can only build credit history?


Is that still going to be helpful in the future?

Yeah...it sucks to not have a valid SSN. I do have a credit card from Capital One after I got a "pre-approved" offer but I really don't see the point of it if I can't get a credit score. The only benefit for me at least of having a credit card is so I can delay some payments and make necessary expenses. It's just like borrowing money and some time before you pay for the service you received. Its really helpful if you have on going medical/dental expenses to take care of. Anyway, personally I'm leaving next summer so there's no point in building credit now. Anyone know if I can carry this credit history when I leave the United States? Any way to have my address changed by the credit bureaus?

I got my credit score with an ITIN. Did with Bank of America. This is how you do it; Apply for credit card through them and if you get one just apply for their credit protection plan. With the credit protection plan you get two free credit reports per year. Some people won't qualify for a credit card so than you'll have to put some money down for a locked credit card which you can only spend what you put down. After one year if you showed a good payment history you should get your money back and the card gets unlocked. After that you can apply for a credit increase because your card is only good for what you put down in the beginning.

Yes. Capital One also offers a similar service to their credit card holders. It's called Credit Inform so we can try using that as well. I am thinking about applying for a BAC card in person but what if they ask for employer? I don't want to start looking nervous in front of the person.

Just tell them where you work at. They only want to make sure your capable of paying them back. It's all about the money. Don't be nervous, only tell them what they need to know. Don't be like "I'm illegal and work under table".

If your not working than maybe you shouldn't have a credit card.

That all sounds cool, I haven't even been able to get a debit card haha.
How do you get an ITIN without stuff like SSN? Plus with an ITIN you have to pay taxes right, like you are expected to send in tax reports? What if you aren't working but want an ITIN to get at least a bank account or try to get a contractor job?

If your Mexican Wachovia doesn't require an ITIN for a bank account. Only a passport and your Mexican Marticula. The only problem is that Wells Fargo bought Wachovia so I don't know if the same rules apply.

You don't need pay stubs to get an ITIN. You can be working like a babysitter or housecleaner, you know people who don't need to fill out paper work to work in those fields. Go to notary that helps people fill out the paper work for ITINs and tell them that your field of work like babysitting doesn't have pay stubs but that you still want to pay your taxes and would like a ITIN. And yes, you would have to file your taxes every year after that because if you don't they will revoke your number. The government doesn't care who you are they only want their money. I heard that even prostitutes file there taxes. Anyways just tell the notary how much you make a year and that should be it.

You shouldn't use your ITIN to work. I heard stories of people using it to work and they been caught.

Okay I went to Chase and the banker told me they don't offer any type of credit card to individuals without a social. So do you have to bank with BoFA in order to receive a credit card or can you just go in and apply? Clearly, I have been banking at the wrong place. I tried applying for the Capital One cc online and they said they will mail me a letter. I am guessing a denial letter since I was not approved instantly. I will go with a secure credit card and go from there. I will keep you updated.
