is Amtrak safe?

I am planning to take an Amtrak Train from Tucson, AZ to Chicago, IL and I'm wondering if they would ask me for some sort of ID to board my train. My itinerary would also include a 4 hour bus ride from Fort Woth, TX to Longview, TX and I'm also wondering is that would be safe, it is more than 100 miles away from the border but I still have my doubts. I would appreciate help and advice greatly!

Ya, I don't know. Anything is a gamble, I guess. I've taken the train from Albuquerque, NM to Los Angeles, CA four times now, and I've never seen any border patrol and nobody's ever asked for my ID. And that is close to the border, and still nothings ever happened.

It is a very big gamble, I would rather fly to Chicago. Avoid leaving from an international hub type of airport, it is safer to leave from airports that serve domestic flies, and generally cheaper.

You would only need a passport (foreign in this case) that has not expired, the presence of the visa or expiration of the visa does not matter, they only need a current government issued document with your picture to verify your identity and the name of the ticket. They will check that, look it under UV light, then you go through the metal scanner, and that is it, you fly to your destination and there should not be any checks.

Just make sure you get on the right plane and you will be fine on that trip.

I would hand the passport open to the picture page, prevent TSA from flipping through to look for your picture. There will not be any more checks other than that throughout the trip.

If I fly from AZ using a Washington DL, will they raise any questions?

You should be completely fine. As long as you have a legit state DL everything should be smooth.

flying was my original alternative but my mom doesn't feel like it would be safe, she's worried that they would somehow check for some sort of status once i arrive at an airport in chicago or something like that so I don't know
