Would like to know wht is the safest n cheapest way to travel between San Diego to LA, CA. Would appreciate very much.

I'm am not from California but clearly there are Border checkpoints between LA and San Diego as I've seen some highlight here.I am also quite sure that there would CBP checking for status at any Airport within the San Diego area even having cleared TSA checks.

Yes there is Border Patrol checkpoint on the way to San Diego.
It is on I-15 South bound. Status check is totally random so you will have to be careful when driving down there.

You will most likely get detained in the San Clemente checkpoint. Do not go to SD.

In that case. Sometimes they close the San Clemente checkpoint during heavy traffic. Send someone ahead of you to let you know if the checkpoint is actually closed.

If a car has a bunch of people, will they check everyone on board? I might be going to SD from LA in May and am worried about this...

CBP will be more cautious about the vehicle with load of people.
There may be narcotics(not saying that's you or your friends or anything)
