Stop Calling it "Rubios Dream Act"

I think the Dreamer community should stop referring to the Senators proposal as Rubio's Dream Act or the Republican Dream Act, It might hurt us in the long run because it will lower the bar for the "Dream Act". If it doesn't pass this year then the needle would have moved farther to the right in regards to the Dream Act. We should call it what it is, Rubio's proposition to help undocumented students.

Anyone agree with me on this?

Whatever it takes to pass the upcoming bill.

Yes, but let's not forget what were dealing with, even though a republican is sponsoring the bill we still have Tea Party nut jobs in the house, as well as republicans with extreme anti immigrant stances, What I, and I'm sure others are afraid of is that by calling it Rubios Dream Act, the next time the Dream Act is introduced we will have a new, lower, baseline, where the original Dream Act's Pathway to citizenship is automatically thrown out because the starting point is now a non immigrant visa

This bill needs to pass if GOP want to keep the House and get the Senate the back or else Obama and his party are sweeping the elections like in 2008.

lol, okay, I agree with you on that, but honestly that's partially irrelevant to what my post is about.

lets call it the bullshit dream act... you guys do realize what rubios version means right? i mean i bearly looked at the stuff about it that is out right now (yes i know all the details aint out yet) but it just looks to me that, if the bill passes... people will be put in a huge line behind all the overstays.... and possibly wait years for something to happen. This giving that you are in the military or in college in the mean while or is it just military im not even sure... but it all just looks fishy to me.

and all the shit about having to get a visa... and be able to apply for a visa and having to go back baaahh ive heard so much shit i dont even know where to begin. so i guess well have to wait for the facts... but as word is out right now it just doesnt look like a good clean option. Might be the only option people will have, but i dont think itll be a good one. at least compared to the DA i mean... the DA couldnt have been more clean and clear... it was military or school... then 5-6 years consecutively inside the us and without felonies... then papers. all the meanwhile getting temporary benefits until the green card.

ps. and another thing, Rubio is a republican "latino" how much more of a sell out can you be? I dont know if anyone was around when he got elected in FL... but he was cracking the Dreamer communities saying shit like "we should have made the "right" choice of going back to our native countries when we could." I even remember the big debates here on DAP at the time about him being cuban and being out of touch with dreamers.

I'm not sure what kind of benefits you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure Dreamers would not receive any entitlements , and Rubio's Visa program is at this time the best we can get, sure you have to wait in line, but you can also marry into citizenship, as well as a host of other options.

like i said im not judging the guys thing i barely went over all the stuff people are saying on the internet about it. Im just comparing it to the original DA. and yea of course its the best option out there... its the only option.

the benefits i meant was the temporary documents you would have gotten under the DA until you got the permanent green card after 6 years?

DA User is very passionate about it passing in the fall semester.

I take it upon myself to refer to it as Rubio's proposal, or more often the alternative. Since the beginning I felt that referring to it as a DREAM act would devalue the original. And also strengthen Republican resolve for being anti- immigrants, well only illegal immigrants.

Yesterday I watched Texas senator candidates talk about the DREAM act those who supported it know that we were brought here through no fault of our own, or that we are viable resources to the economy and society in general (all Democrats) and all the Republicans said was that we were here illegally. They know that we were just kids, but they are all hard nosed on the fact that we are here illegally. And that is the only reason they won't change their minds.

I see where yo are coming from and as an old dreamer I respect your views. I'm a very young dreamer, and fairly recent to the movement(apart from being undocumented my whole life). My views are very similar to yours. Not to disrespect dreamers, but some are so desperate they are fighting for something they haven't seen, and all the while completely bashing Democrats even though they are the reason we have a DREAM act in the first place. Somehow they twist it all to blame Democrats now, and praise Republicans. They are so bipolar. When I first started this forum all I heard was Republicans were all born in hell. Seriously many of these people are completely ridiculous. Its like they have never seen politics before. And they get so mad about Americans being ignorant because they don't support our cause. Just because they don't want amnesty doesn't make them ignorant. Of course there are some ignorant, racist people, but that is not a huge chunk of the populous. And I find all that to be ironically ignorant. Instead of hearing logical conclusions they argue about which politicians can go jump off a bridge or something. Sorry I had to rant.
