Is it realistic for me to take 3 college classes while working 40-48 hours a week?
So I want to take a class that is four credits and two that are three credits each for a total of 10 credits. So I would just be shy 2 credits of being a full time student. Should I just stick with two classes or should I thug life it and take three? What are some of your experiences with working full time and going to school??

Re: Is it realistic for me to take 3 college classes while working 40-48 hours a week
I would take 16 hours and work 40-50 hours a week when in my junior year. It is very stressful and exhausting! Specially I was in my junior year. I did not get all A's, I got some B's. If you are very tight for money, do it, but if just finishing faster is what you have in mind then just wait and take it later.
The problem for me is that you get charged not per credit hour but by being a full time student. If you get charged per credit hour then who cares when you take it. You will pay the same anyways. I take it this will be your first semester... I would be careful with political science and psych, they are very "easy" classes but they often involve a lot of writing. It all depends on the instructors. Pick instructors wisely, that makes all the difference. Back in community college, homework was not required. All grades were based on tests. To me it was so wonderful. my first semester I took 24 credit hours and worked around 40/week Calc 2 (5) Diff eq (5) Physics 2 (4) Chem II (4) Geography (3) French 3 (3) It was a fun semester, it was not bad at all. If you are excited about attending school then I do not think you will have a problem!!! I Love School! Do not sacrifice your GPA though!!! GPA is very important if you want to get in to Graduate school!!! To find the first job also, After the first Job,... no one gives a damn about your GPA... Good luck, if you need any advice with anything PM me. Specially with calc. :D |

Calculus is one of those things where you either get it and breeze through it or it'll be a tough mofo and you'll bash your head repeatedly against it. I guess.. try it and see. If you need to cut back on hours, then you need to cut back on hours.

My dad works almost 100 hours a week (and not to mention, but he's very underpaid - you can't do anything about it though with this life). So B.S. with all of you who complain about your hours (and are adults). But if you're in college, then 40-48 hours is fine; it's about 6 hours per day. It'll be quite busy but you can do it if you're motivated.

I must be lucky, I make about 25-30 an hour waiting tables here in the Las Vegas strip. I only work 35 hours a week and go to school full-time, get all A's and manage to party like a king at Marquee on Saturday nights. Move to Vegas! ;D
