where can I rent college textbooks? (preferably online)
My school has an ID requirement to rent textbooks which I dont have yet, and its too expensive to buy a new book. What are some reputable websites where I can rent instead? Thank you.

Sometime an international version or used textbook is cheaper than renting one. Do your research before renting one.

Chegg.com is actually the best website to rent books and I've been using it for a while now.
But before you go to that website, search the textbooks you are looking for up on ebay or amazon and find the prices to BUY those books. I recently rented a book for a class for 9.99 and 4.99 S & H. Came out to around 15 bucks. I later found that same book on eBay in good condition with no marks for 4.99 free shipping. I bought the book from eBay and then returned the book I had rented to chegg.com to get a full refund minus shipping and handling. So they gave me $5 bucks back because the book cost 10 and they charged me for shipping it back to them. So just really do some research prior to renting a book. And when you do, go with Chegg.com, best website in my opinion. Good return dates that you can request longer dates for and great policies on returns if you happen to change your mind about the book. |

I recommend Chegg too. If you already know the ISBN for the required textbook, I would recommend buying them on amazon, half, or ebay before going to chegg. Most for $10-20 more you can BUY one instead of rent-- but then make a good part of the money back by selling it at the end of the semester.
Chegg to me is a waste of money UNLESS it is a new edition of the textbook being used in which case you wont be able to find one used and prices for new books are ridiculous. |

Chegg and Half.com have great rental prices. There's other sites like textbookrentals.com or something like that, that do the job too.
If you have your professor's email, I'd recommend shooting them an email asking if you can use the previous edition of your textbook. One year one professor let me use an old edition, which ended up costing me $8 to own, not rent. Also try craigslist or any other local classified websites. Those come through every once in a while. |

I agree with some people, its sometimes cheaper to buy the used books than to rent it. Always compare prices. Also, most of the time the books you need are in the library so if you budget your time and borrow before other people get it, you dont have to spend anything.
Check out amazon, half, or abebooks for buying used books. For renting ,I sometimes go to neebo but their shipping is expensive ($7 even when the book is tiny) but they do have a promo every january for a free rental if you like their facebook page. |
Re: where can I rent college textbooks? (preferably online)
There is no bigger pain in the neck for student than buying textbooks, mostly due to the enormous and usurious expense. However, Amazon wants to do the nation’s students a solid, by expanding the Amazon textbook rental program to hard copy books.Textbooks are one of the biggest pains in the backside when it comes to college expenses. Aside from the already ample installment loans one has to take to pay for tuition, room and board and so on, one also has to buy textbooks, which are a usury in excess of what is thought of as excessive usury. Good luck!

Buy book on eBay and resell it on eBay after the semester. Do this every semester and your books will be free.

http://bigwords.com/
I use this site whenever looking for books, or looking to sell some back If I won't be needing them again. Enter the ISBN into the search bar (best method, since ISBN's are unique), select whether you want to buy, sell, or rent, and you're good. It brings up a list of different quotes from websites. ~~ Also, does your school not accept Student ID, OP? Or do you need a state ID before you can get a student ID where you go to school? |
