Disadvantage in applying in October?
 

I want to apply as soon as possible, but I've been calling the Consulate in Dallas, and the soonest they can fit me in to renew my passport is October 15th. Aside from waiting an extra two months, should I be fine or is this something I really must get done ASAP?

What country is this for?

Have you told them why you need the passport urgently? If not, please do, and see if something can be done. Some consulates, like the Mexican one, are expediting consular IDs and passports for Dreamers who qualify under Obama's directive. In other words, they'll pretty much give you an earlier appointment, instead of having to wait 2-3 months for it.

Yes, It's for a Mexican Passport. I will go ahead and continue calling to see if I can get my date moved up. Would a visit in person help? I don't know that they do walk in for these.. but I'll try to drive down there next week and see what happens.

To be correct, one needs an ID like a passport to do biometrics right? I have my matricula from Mexico and current college ID. I am hoping that this will suffice to identify myself to USCIS when doing biometrics and the background check.

I have my appointment the 27th of this month in Dallas. I called them like 2 months ago. Im going to call them again Monday and explain the situation hopefully they'll give me an earlier appointment. I want to apply ASAP, because I have a feeling that the longer we wait the more backlogged the system will become.

Hmm I have an expired passport and my country of origin (India) requires my presence in the country to renew it. I didn't think this would be an issue because the point of the relief is that we are illegal and might not have all our documents up to date. I was going to send a copy of my expired passport, birth certificate, and expired visa to prove my age and entry date. There is nothing in the guidelines that pertains to having a valid passport (in fact, there is no mention of the word "passport" at all). I figured that when going in for my biometrics, I would take all forms of identification I had (expired passport and visa, school ID, expired California ID).

^ It's not for the actual application the passport is required. When you go to your biometrics appointment a valid government ID is usually required.

While that makes sense, I do hope they don't make it hard for people in my situation to get their biometrics done. It would defeat the purpose of the program.. I need to do it in order to get valid identification, but I can't do it without valid id..

I had the same problem with my passport! The Indian embassy is really strict. My mom gave it to a man my aunt knew who worked for the embassy and renewed it for a fee.. a pretty hefty fee, I think it was around $1500.

I know what you mean. I have an expired passport w/ visa, but my last name in there is different from the one I've been using. I'd like to get a new passport with my real last name in it, but the closest embassy (they require you to go there in person for passports) is in Cali and I'm stuck in Colorado.
