Conceald Handgun License after DACA?

Is anyone else thinking about getting a CHL or any other license in your state what will allow you to carry a handgun? I'm curious if DACA recipients will be able to have full benefits to buy a handgun and allowed to carry. I believe you only need a government ID and a SSN.

This is a right for citizens only. The make you fill out a form where you have to state this. Then they do a quick FBI background check using your social.
How do I know this??? My bf just bought one last month. It was his birthday and I went with him.

What state are you in? This is NOT just for US citizens. Texas only requires that you have been a legal resident of that state for the past 6 months before you fill out an application for a CHL.

Re: Conceald Handgun License after DACA?

This is what I found on Texas laws and I'm thinking anyone who was simply deferred action would not qualify:

If I am a legal resident alien, can I get a license?

It depends. A resident alien who has been admitted to the U.S. under an immigrant visa category will generally be eligible for a concealed handgun license. However, under federal law, an alien who has been admitted to the U.S. under a non-immigrant visa usually is not qualified to purchase a handgun and thus is not eligible for a license.

If you legally reside in Texas and were not admitted to the U.S. under a non-immigrant visa, you may be eligible.

You need a green card minimum judging by what is in bold.

Sigh.

US vs Huitron-Guizar confirmed that we don't have a right to bear arms as illegal aliens.

I don't know about other states, but in Californian non-citizens are essentially banned the ability to have arms due to harsh laws regarding the transportation of firearms. This combined with other state gun laws effectively deprive those of us in California from firearms.

I did further research on this and since "deferred action" is not actually being here "legally" and still deemed as "unlawful status", then you may not be allowed to have a firearm. However, there are certain exceptions by the ATF that do allow certain people to have firearms, even if they are here on temporary visas.
