I live in NJ and today I went to apply for an ssn. and on the receipt it says SSN is only for work.
and today I went to apply for Dental assistant school and they asked for an ssn.

i dont know what to do.

does one need to be a US citizen to go to Dental assisting school?

It's not only for work....Actually, the time you can use it for work is limited.

You can only use it for work if you have a valid EAD.

Give them your SSN, you can use it for almost anything.

SSN is never only for work. It serves as a tax ID number, de facto ID number, etc.

Just give them the ssn.

The card you received says "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.". It means that in order to work with that number you need current authorization (work visa, EAD, green card, etc). That number can be used for any purpose, and will be valid for any non-work purpose even if your work authorization expires.

Do NOT give them your Tax ID number.

I'm going into Nursing school and they told me I wouldn't be abe to complete my clinicals my junior year if I did not have legal status. Now that I have my EAD and SSN I'm all clear.

They probably need your SSN for clinicals as well (I think it counts as work). If you give them your Tax ID number you are pretty much saying you don't have a SSN and you're illegal.

With DACA and EAD we are LEGAL aliens and we are authorized to work.

From now on you should use your SSN for everything, including your taxes. For all I know, your Tax ID now is obsolete.
