EAD Approved, Received. Questions!
 

Hey guys,

I received my EAD on Saturday, October 13th, 2012. I'm so excited! :D Anyways, the obvious next step is to go apply for an original SSN. I'm going tomorrow to the office that serves my area, and I looked online and saw that the work permit (I766) is an option to demonstrate legal name/birth date/etc.

I'm planning on taking my EAD, expired passport, I-94, and original birth certificate just to be sure.

For the people that already applied for a SSN, what did you take? And by the way, on the SSA website, it said that for applicants 12 and older must be interviewed to make sure that I am applying for a new, original card. Did you guys get interviewed?

Most people recommend to wait 10 days after you receive your EAD to go apply for your SSN because you might not be on the system yet so it would make the process longer. However, some go apply right away and get it within a few days so it is up to you.

And yes just take your birth certificate and/or passport and of course your EAD to the social security office and they will guide you from there.

Just one question, what did you put under Question 5 on the SSN application? "Legal Alien Allowed to Work, Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work, or Other"?

Put "Legal Alien Allowed To Work". When you go there keep us updated on what happened.

Ugh..I just don't want to do it wrong! That's what I was thinking but we're not really legal. Just protected by DACA with EAD's.

I thought we were still under illegal status .. but authorized to work... im also wondering about where it askes you ... "Legal Alien Allowed to Work, Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work, or Other"?

Is it ok to arry a photocopy if our EAD card? Is it Illegal in anyway?

Becareful where you put it. One guy got his car broken into and wallet stolen with EAD inside of it. Really sucks for him.

Yeah thats wht I was wondering if its ok to just carry a photocopy of the card instead of the actual card; just in case I have an encounter with ICE OR CBP.
