Job Interview with DACA

Hi guys,

I am not sure if anyone had a job interview yet... but how do you explain your visa situation during job interviews?

What if they ask you during the interview or during HR process what kind of visa that I hold? I can show them the social security card and the work permit card but what if they ask about my status? What would you say or rather what should we say that's still honest but doesn't fully give our DACA status away?

I will be applying for hospital jobs (nursing) so I have a feeling this question will arise and I don't think explaining my full DACA situation will be helpful in the hiring process. However, I do want to be honest.

I doubt you will be asked about your status, as long as you have your EAD and social to show legal authorization to work in the United States. I think your more likely to be asked about your long term commitment working with them, when they see your EAD is only for 2 years.

As far as I know, they can't ask you for that. All they need to know (and should know) is that you have authorization to work in the United States. No person can be hired on the sole basis of their legal status.

For example, a citizen, permanent resident and alien allowed to work stand on the same ground. As long as they call can provide work authorization.

Yea. It's illegal to inquire about it immg status as long as you can prove your eligible for work.

I don't think that's part of a normal hiring process but if it comes up just say you are a non immigrant allowed to work. If they ask you ur type of visa just answer that you had your status adjusted through DACA granted by the president. Don't be shy about it, a lot of people actually like DACA and encourage us to follow our dream in this country.

Usually you just take in your SSN card and an ID (State or DL).

Re: Job Interview with DACA

I completed an application online and it asked questions like " are you a U.S. Citizen, a lawful permanet resident, asylee or refuee?" then "If not, are you currently eligible to work for all employers in the United States on a full-time basis?" and finally " Please explain the basis for your employment authorization" So my answers were: No, Yes, and Received Employment Authorization Document on 10-2-12 effective until 10-1-14 under an approved I-821D Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals application. This is for a job in a lab with a hospital network, so might be similar for you when you start applying? I say you just state it if asked, no need to lie 'cause it's all legal :D

I am an RN too and on hospital applications they usually ask if you can provide proof of lawful ability to work in the U.S. and that's it. Just click that! after you get hired, they usually send u to HR where u show them ur documentation (SSN, ead, gc, etc.)
