SS form question 5

This has probably been answered before, but I don't have time to search.

On this question am I right if I put down "other?" I think its the one that most suits us DACA applicants correct? Please answer if you have gotten your SS# already. Thank you.

NO YOU DON'T PUT DOWN "OTHER". You put down Legal Alien Allowed To Work.

DACA does not grant legal status, you put "OTHER" and provide the Employment Authorization Card.

Other basically means illegal, and there's no such thing as an illegal allowed to work.

A work permit is a proof of legal presence (it is listed as a valid immigration document on SSA's site as well). You do not hold legal status but you're nonetheless legally present in US. In addition being granted deferred action also makes you legally present in the country, even if you do not have a work permit, as do a bunch of other things (ex. being brought in for trial from abroad) without giving you legal status.

To prove your U.S. immigration status, you must show us your current U.S. immigration document, such as Form I-551 (Lawful Permanent Resident Card, Machine Readable Immigrant Visa), I-766 (work permit) or I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record).

When you apply you put down Legal Alien Allowed to Work, not other.

You put "Legal Alien Allowed to Work". I left that part of my application blank and asked the clerk what would be best to put down. She said that "Legal Alien Allowed to Work" is the one to check off.
