IL State ID vs. IL Drivers license

Has anyone gotten their IL state ID? If so, how many years is it for?

I just got my drivers license yesterday and it is valid for 5 years. I was going to get my state ID at the same time but my mom talked me out of it. I will wait until after my birthday next year so they won't expire at the same time. That way I can renew my license with my state id and I can renew my state ID with my license.

I dont think they can give you both. I think it's against the law to have 2 state IDs.

I'd follow your mom's advice. When I got my DL and State ID I made sure that they have alternating expiration years. My DL expires in 2017 and my State ID is 2015. Just as a precaution, in case requirements get stricter down the road that won't allow me to renew one, you'll have an extra year or two with the other.

*edited to add* t2flegend - maybe this varies by state? It's not illegal in IL.

So the state ID & DL expire on your birthday, not the day issued?

this advice sounds solid to me: That way I can renew my license with my state id and I can renew my state ID with my license.

@Osito hope you get that DL tomorrow. I havent studied for my drivers test at all, I am going to just wing it.

AFAIK, ids expire on your birthday.

I'm going to SoS in a couple hours. I went through the practice questions at the end of each chapter in Rules of the Road, only got 4 wrong so I should be okay. :)

OP not sure if trolling or not but you can only have an I.D or D.L. If you had an i.d and want to get a license, then they will give you your license and destroy your i.d.
