GOP's Dream Act: ACHIEVE Act

http://dailycaller.com/2012/11/15/de...am-act-emerge/

It's really going to cut the pool of 'Dreamers' down a lot.

Age:
Arrived before 14, and be under 28, or 32 if you have a Bachelors Degree.

5 year residence in US.

Criminal History:
1 Felony
1 Misdemeanor

Visa:
6 year W-1 VISA
4 year nonimmigrant work visa
Then Conditional Permanent Residence without Welfare benefits
Then maybe Citizenship.

Sound like 10 Dreamers are going to make it through all the hoops.

I would apply, but I am 245I+CSPA so my AOS date will come in 5 years so I'll just enjoy all the Legal benefits of the VISA.

I  at the bolded part.

I don't like it. I want my pathway to citizenship and food stamps.

Lol jk about the food stamps.

We're getting somewhere! Although I do dislike the requirements and the whole visa thing.
This is interesting:
Quote:

Essentially, the proposal involves several tiers: W-1 visa status would allow an immigrant to attend college or serve in the military (they have six years to get a degree). After doing so, they would be eligible to apply for a four-year nonimmigrant work visa (also can be used for graduate degrees.)

Next, applicants would be eligible to apply for a permanent visa (no welfare benefits.) Finally, after a set number of years, citizenship “could follow…”

Why "could"? The Democrats should compromise with this. This will be interesting! And it's awesome how fast they came up with it (maybe they already had this planned).

Fuckity fuckity fuckity fuck! I was in the US at 14, but I left for 9 months and then returned before I turned 16.

Well, shit sucks.

I believe the Age Requirement is going to be the compromise and the length of the Conditional LPR is going to be the other one. I believe that was the reason Senators cried in 2010, because the age cap was at 35.

But in the end this is going to be a pathway to citizenship no matter what, Dem's won't let it go any other way.

I get you man. Instead of 14, it should be 16 - which is basically considered a minor.

I'm telling you guys, do not become overly optimistic about all this immigration reform talk. This is going to be extremely difficult to pass. I don't even want to see what the republican led house has in mind.

Well, the GOP came up with this, didn't they? And this will not create a "special pathway to citizenship" so some of the Repubs will like that. Besides, this was just made news a couple hours ago, let's see how the Dems respond to this.

I really wish the 2010 version of the DA was introduced once again. I know it won't stand a chance but then I guess they should lower the age and maybe even increase the amount of years of continous presence?
