Immigration status outed by Facebook
Fucking Facebook (pardon my language). What the hell is the point of a social networking site if there is no option for any privacy? It's nothing but a bullshit dictatorship stripping users of any control over user content. Zuckerberg's obsession of exposing every single detail possible about people to each other is a real fucked up idea of how networking should work.
That's why I hardly log on, much less post anything. But I did post of my approval on the Dream Act's page. Why? Because in the moment I was overcome with joyous emotion that I wanted to share with the dreamer community of that page. The post ended up in the news feed for ALL people on my friend list to see. All 300+ of them. All the comments and likes the post got from dreamers ensured that it persisted in the news feed as a top story. Some close friends that saw it and knew my situation reached out and asked me about it. Seemed strange to me that they all coincidentally asked about my status on the day I was approved until they told me they saw it on Facebook. That was infuriating. Aside from family and a small group of close friends, the large majority of friends I have on Facebook are acquaintances to whom I would not openly disclose personal information such as my status. Almost two months now since my approval and still getting asked about that post when I run into acquaintances that saw it--happened last night hence the inspiration for this thread. The only good to come of this is that it has shed light on the issue as no one ever suspected me of being illegal until they read it on stupid Facebook. Hopefully that helps bring awareness to some misconceptions and stereotypes. Another positive is that it showed me who cared about my status. All said and done, deactivated my account last night. No need for a garbage networking site with complete disregard to my privacy. Hope Google+ takes those bastards down. [End of angry rant] |

I agree, I don't even comment on or like anyone's pic because stupid ass Facebook has to let everyone on my friend's list know where I commented and what I liked. B**** ass hoes. >:-[

That's why I only lurks on the Dream Act's page. I didn't even post about my approval on FB. Only on twitter though since my friends who follow me there don't know what DACA is and my status.

Have two accounts. One for strictly personal stuff, the other for political matters. There's a reason why rebels in the old days have noms de guerre.

Re: Immigration status outed by Facebook
I don't like the privacy facebook has. I never like to post anything on facebook, mostly because I don't like it and because it goes to newsfeed..

Re: Immigration status outed by Facebook
I had also deleted mine recently along with Twitter. My paranoid mind was worried that the background check would extend to my online presence and I had deleted both just to be sure (regardless of whether or not it would TRULY be deleted) Being off the grid so to speak is pretty liberating as well as "eye opening" I definitely wasted a lot of time scrolling down a bunch of useless status updates and tweets, as if I give a shit that Ellie Green thinks "chips ahoys are yummy" and why the fuck would anyone like that 24 times? any who I definitely used it to pass the time in an unproductive manner. Recently been reading more books as well as working on school work and I'm forcing myself to socialize better in person. It was a good decision to deactivate it. Social networking is a good idea we just abuse the hell out of it.
