Changing SSN on your bank account
I have a random question and am wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation or has any advice. I've had a Bank of America checking account and credit card for the past 3 years, which I opened in college. It was really easy to get since it was a student account so the only ID they asked for was my student ID....and a social security number. I didn't have an SSN but made one up at the time since I was scared and didn't know if I could get a bank account without one. But I've been lucky and never had any problems with using my checking account and credit card.
But when I get approved and get a legit SSN, what should I do about my already open bank account? Do you think there's any way I can explain why I would want to change the SSN on my current account, or keep my credit card (which I would love to do since I've built up a good credit report over the past 3 years!)? |

Re: Changing SSN on your bank account
you guys have more balls than I do.
I opened my BoA account with an itin back in 08. when i got my SSN i went into a branch and the lady changed it over for me no problem. that's a little different but i'd suggest just walking into a branch and talking with one of them. |

Re: Changing SSN on your bank account
yup that easy. She did say that the system wouldn't let them change the SSN without a state id/drivers license number, I had just gotten my state id that same day so she changed it on the spot. easy peasy.

Oh god... I would never do that.. What if they froze your account and kept your money on there..

Re: Changing SSN on your bank account
It's possible to open a bank account without SSN. I opened mine with just my passport and recently went into the branch and told them I wanted to update some personal info and they made a copy of the SS card and I was good to go!

Re: Changing SSN on your bank account
BofA allows you to open an account with just an ITIN and some form of ID. So I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem when you decided to update your information. I was able to open a checking acct and a credit card from BofA using my ITIN since '07.
