Police willing to sign i-918 form for U visa
 

Hello,

I stopped by the police station (to get report) and they told me that, they wrote everything I said when I was assaulted. I told them about my status and they said that if, I decide to go forward with the U visa, they're willing to sign the form. They also told me that, I might get denied due to the fact that, immigration is very specific about the qualifications. I need your thoughts people........

Just make sure you know what the hell you are doing because claiming that u were a victim of a crime is a pretty serious accusation. You need solid evidences to prove because you don't want it to backfire on you. Good luck and sorry for the situation you are in. I know how mentally stressful it can be.

Awesome,That IS actually the most difficult part of the application process having willing law enforcement to certify the form that you were a crime victim and also you must continue to be helpful with the case once they sign the form.[Law Enforcement handling the case or the Department can withdraw the Certification at any time,but it is very rare and usually only if someone lied during the official statement]

A local Police Department is NOT the USCIS VAWA unit[handles U visas] and you should not mind anything they mention with regards to the success of your application process.It also doesn't matter you status,how you entered or even if you have a removal/deportation order as a U visa has multiple waivers to overcome all if not most of those issues.The next thing you should work on is getting medical records concerning the altercation and then your own personal affidavit with the affidavits of others who may have witnessed the incident in question.Based on the evidence USCIS will do a thorough investigation based on the evidence,claim and the general requirements for meeting U visa standards.The process takes quite a while and I believe the website is quoted @ ~10 months timeline for the process.

don't they give you a removal notice if you lose your case? and aren't the cases very hard to win? I'd stay away from that

Don't listen to the happy man. Cuz obviously he hasn't been happy since 607 A.D.
But in all seriousness folks, say you are serious about being victim to a crime. Well, don't let it slip it unreported. Remember we are being watched. This forum is open, people we'll think we're a bunch of pussies because we won't go report crimes. Which would make us an easy-target, something worth noting especially this time around.

I applied in November of 2011. I had my biometrics on December 27. I was approved for four years on March 26, 2012. In 3 years I will be applying for AOS in March...When I decided to go to an attorney I had already completed the supplement which according to the attorney was the easiest part.

Are you the same one that was assaulted by three guys or something like that. Make sure you speak to an attorney. Because U visas are really meant for victims of domestic violence or hate crimes and their denial rate is pretty high. Don't do it alone.

It can sometimes come to that,but they rarely issue NTAs for denied U visa applications.
The numerous questions I heard on from the VAWA unit [all from lawyers btw]it didn't seem that way.Most law enforcement are hesitant on issuing or signing the supplementals from what I've been able to gather.A very good example would be the NYPD or ICE special agents.In fact,there is an upcoming teleconference in Mid-January specific to law enforcement and I think if anyone wants to listen they can see that law enforcement are hesitant in signing legal documents that looks as though it gives "status".
Agree on the attorney or a specialized non-profit concerning these types of cases like Catholic Charities.However,I disagree on the denial rates being high as it seems nominal considering it is still a fairly new process.
