meeting people from online
 

So i know it has been more common for people to meet from online. before it was looked as shady or questionable, but i guess is more common.

Who here has met someone from online? how did it go? from where did you meet them (dating site, facebook, forums, messenger, etc...)

just curious on input since I have never met anyone from online (im really shy)

In general you should be careful (this shouldnt be a surprise). I'll let you know my experience of meeting someone on here soon enough. You should probably make sure to atleast text/talk to them on the phone or have a better picture of who they are. It should go without saying that you should meet in a relatively populated place and in public to avoid compromising safety. I've met people from online before and havent had any bad experiences...though im sure other people have had terrible experiences.

well im going to a daca event in chicago from dap, so im sure that will be pretty safe. but now that i have a DL, i wanna meet new people and explore more options. i really dont have friends (most my friends are relatives lol). been to shy to go to bars/clubs. i kinda wanna join a dating site, and a social site to meet locals and become friends so i can be more sociable in life and have friends.

any dating site and social site you recommend to meet locals?
im sure video chatting is another great way to confirm identity. i really dont feel comfortable giving my # because dont want them to blow my phone...i like to give it after meeting the person.

Lmao I met a friend on fb. We had mutual friends (we both know them personally) though and before we met we talked through fb and texted a lot. We've hung out several times and nothing either of us that do not want to happen has happened. I guess it depends on the person??? If it's a complete stranger that you don't even have friends in common with then it's a little creepy. Oh we also go to the same school only we had never seen each other there...haha

But on a serious note, yeah I've met people online. The key is to get to know them decently well (about as well as you can through IM, FB, etc). Like MD said, meet in a very public place and always tell a friend where you're going to be that day (paranoid parrot reporting for duty...). And if this is going to be an online dating meet-up, go for coffee. Don't try to go all out and have a full-on date the first time you meet someone from an online dating service. Ever watch 'Catfish' on MTV? Yeah. The chances that the person you've been talking to online isn't the same person that shows up for the date are higher than you think.

lol well i know for a fact some of you guys been doing dap outings like in chicago and new york. im gonna be going to the one in chicago to meet some fellow dap members, but I was referring more on the non-dap online sites to meet locals and such
