Your challenges of getting a Job after EAD

I wanted to get some feedback and see where everyone is at and perhaps gather some suggestions from everyone.

I went to a well known university and acquired two Bachelor's degrees.... Finance and Management. The only job experience I have is freelancing by making websites for people and using my computer skills to make money. As a result, I don't have any direct job experience.

I've applied to 100+ jobs on monster.com with relatively little success for jobs I felt I might be able to do. My experience has been the following.... even at the "entry level" employers are asking for candidates with experience. This has been the case for all accounting/finance related jobs that I have pursued.

Have you guys had similar experiences with your job searches?

I previously was a Software Engineering major and have thought about going back to school to complete the degree. Anyways.... I am just all kinds of confused as far as what I want to do since I have no job experience....

Alternatively I have a high enough GMAT score to get into an MBA program at my school if I wanted to start in September.

Yeah this is why I didn't go into the business fields. I do have a 2 year business associates I finished while completing my transfer degree into a 4 year school but in the business field, if you dont have experience your degrees don't matter much

You will have to start slow and MBA are good if you graduate from a Top business school.

All I can say to you is network like no tmr

How long have you been out of school? Did you update your resume to be finance/accounting oriented? Not sure how much that will help considering that you have no experience, but it doesn't hurt to update the resume anyway.

1) Network
2) If you have taken the GMAT, submit your application for the March round, unless your school has rolling admissions. Once you start school you can go through your school's recruiting process.

Your best bet right now is to network though and hopefully someone can give you a lead or has an offer. Some other posters have posted they've found accounting jobs, some even at big firms, hopefully someone will be able to help here.

Yeah that's why at this point, I am debating between going back to finish my software engineering degree or to get an MBA. Essentially both would take the same time to finish. Quite honestly, at this point for myself its a matter of which path would yield the better long run return. Decisions... decisions.....

Try a staffing agency. Maybe a temporary job can lead to a full time position. I don't really like monster.com or those websites. I think at first they were good but now they tend to be full of junk ads.

Also, go back to your schools career center and ask for their list of jobs. Join your alumni association as sometimes they give you access to job listings. If your close to your college go to their career day recruiting days.

Well in terms of retail...I got a job being a floor manager at a local coffee shop right after I got my work permit. But I realized that if I don't go back to school and finish my degree that's where I'll most likely be for the rest of my life. So before I got too comfortable I called it quits and enrolled back to school.

I'm in a similar position to you, but I've been successful in terms of getting job interviews. Now it's all about waiting and seeing what the outcomes are. I'm waiting for 2 places, another interview for a third this week.

Can you work through your alumni network? I basically went through Indeed and my school's jobs board and have been successful.

Also, PM me if you are considering MBA. I'm thinking about it as well. I do have job experience though which helps me a lot, but quite frankly... we're in a unique position with our job histories so it's so hard to know if it's a good bet. I probably will apply in Fall 2013 or Fall 2014.

I personally would want to have some work experience under my belt before pursuing an MBA. Plus, I'd like to have savings too.

just starting to apply. while I don't have work experience in my field (I have a Master's degree), I do have plenty of research lab experience (all unpaid). I'm very nervous for interviews.

I was as well. But I admitted what the situation was at the outset in my cover letters to help explain the gaps.
