Dreamers that are paying in-state tuition
 

I've been living in Florida and went to my local college to ask what papers I needed to be able to pay in-state tuition and they told me since I'm 19 and still live with my parents, they would have to prove they've been living here for at least a years, not me. I thought once I got approved and was able to get a social security I would be able to pay in-state tuition since I have my high school transfer to prove I've been living here for years and our bills are in our landlord's name not my parents so they cant prove they live here. How did you guys do it?

What's your local college? Do your parents have a lease that is in their name? I went to the answer center at Valencia and I told the lady that I was undocumented but that I now had deferred action. Unless you make more than 8000 a year( there's other exceptions like having a child, etc.), you are considered a dependent. My dad bought our house in 2003 and most bills are in his name. That's how I did it. You should look up the residency requirments for your school and see what other documents would help prove residency besides bills.

i live in florida too. you have to check your college proof of residency requirements. Every college is different and they might ask or accept different proofs
my college accepted out leasing contract, our cable monthly bills ( 12 consecutive), the registration of our car (as long as they were under one of our parents name), and that was it =)

Instate tuition can be tricky if your state doesn't have a State-level DREAM Act that gives High School graduates in-state tution. (I forget if Florida does or not...I'm assuming no)

If no is the case, you still may not be eligible for instate tution at all depending on Florida residency requirements.

In some states, up until the age of 21 your residency is determined by the residency of your parents, unless you can prove you are financially independent of them for the duration of more than one year, and have established a domicile in the state, have held a job for the duration of a year or more, and have filed taxes with the state.

This is, of course, assuming your state accepts DACA/EAD for residency purposes.

They will simply tell you that since DACA only gives legal presence, not status, you are still subject to out-of-state tuition rates.

im a senior in high school and really need some advice regarding in state tuition, i live in florida therefpre not one of the states that provides the in-state tuition im in my senior year of high school 6 weeks away from graduation. i filed for the deferred action march 1st where on of the requirements as you all know is to be graduating high school or have already gotten your GED what i was planning was to wait through it to get my work permit and have already been approved to then drop-out of school move to NY where you have to live 30 days before taking a GED test and then apply for there in state tuition and apply for college. any advice or tips or heard of any similar stories?

actually in NY you have to attend high school here for 3 years at least to get instate tuition for undocumented students ...

I live in Miami, Fl and we do not get instate tuition. I'm not exactly sure how the process works or what is required when you are considered a dependent of your parents but below is the link to FIU's waiver for DACA recipients. There are other schools who have also said they would give us instate tuition. Check out the thread below.

I'm fairly sure Florida does have a law granting instate tuition to those granted deferred action, of course getting them to do it is another story.

Depends on the school
Some universities are stricter than others I know FAU, FIU and I belive UFC do give it
My cc all they ask for is your social and a couple of bills
