Big Win? Senate Immigration Bill May Let Some Deportees Return

I wonder if this means some Dreamers who left maybe able to return as well.

The bipartisan Senate immigration reform bill expected to be released as early as tomorrow will allow some deported immigrants to apply for waivers to return to the U.S., according to two people who have seen the draft legislation. The provision, according to sources, will permit deportees whose children, parents or spouses are United States citizens or legal permanent residents to ask the government for permission to come back. Immigration reform advocates considered a provision like this unattainable at the outset of negotiations.

The separation of hundreds of thousands of families because of deportation has in recent years become a core rallying cry for advocates pushing for immigration reform. The majority of undocumented immigrants have families in the United States and nearly half are the parents of young children.

In December, Colorlines.com reported government data, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, that revealed that nearly 205,000 mothers and fathers of U.S. citizens children were deported in a period of just over two years.

The deportation of parents and spouses as well as children of citizens and residents has left many families and communities in shambles. Thousands of children are stuck in foster care when their parents are deported, according to a 2011 Colorlines.com investigation.

The return would not be automatic and many deportees who wish to return would likely be denied a waiver, sources said. Those who were convicted of crimes would not be allowed back and sources were not sure when deportees could start to apply. But many immigrants who would have been eligible for provisional immigration status under the reform bill had they not been deported will be permitted to apply to return to their families.

If their parents are citizens or children are but if they are not?

I hate to say this but those who on their choice left should put ahead as they did the right thing if they're allowed back

lol, my parents friend who ran up a $30,000 debt (on purpose) before their deportation date will probably feel very conflicted about this.

(All their children are USC, though given their history, I doubt they'd get a waiver). Assuming this makes it into the final bill, ofc.

If the rest of the DREAM portion in this bill is verbatim of the last DREAM act, then the age cap will be 34.99 years and under at the time the bill is enacted.

I have never seen above 34 though. 34 age and under is the highest I have seen in a DA bill. Also Retroactive Provisions with no age cap. I hope that is Retro with no age cap. 99 years?

This is the most up-to-date DREAM act. The only retroactivity will be if say, you file the form at the age of 35 but you were under that age when the President signed the bill.

(F) the alien was 35 years of age or younger on the date of the enactment of this Act.

Ok, so highest we have seen is 35. I hope they have 35 and under than. Why do you say 34.99?
