Senate Immigration Bill Revealed

Dreamers can get their green cards in 5 years, and will be eligible for citizenship immediately after that. Under a new AgJOBS Act, undocumented farm workers who have been working in the U.S. would be eligible for an Agricultural Card, and if they pay taxes and a $400 fine they and their spouses and minor children can adjust to legal permanent resident status.

The bill addresses the issue of families who have been separated through deportation. Undocumented immigrants who had been deported for non-criminal reasons but who had been in the U.S. before the end of 2011 can reapply to re-enter and apply for RPI status, if they are the spouse of or parent to a child who is a U.S. citizen or legal resident, or a Dreamer eligible for the DREAM Act.
Damn, five years is a lot. But at least it's progress. Also, does this mean you get your citizenship right after you get your green card in five years, or is there another wait for that?

If they let me enlist then I'm cool with that. But yeah 5 years seems too long. It would seem better to get a green card immediately and then citizenship in 5 years.

If only I was approved I could also rejoice in the announcement.

But my life is in limbo, the great dark uncertainty.

Ah what would I do to get approved.

So I guess they are sticking with the Dream Acts original idea

Conditional Permanent Residency (you have to complete 2 years of military or be enrolled in a higher education whichever comes first towards a B.S) , then Green Card, then Citizenship

Come on people!

I couldn't be happier with what's being proposed here considering that every past iteration of the DA required us live 6 years with a conditional GC.

Wait 5 years? PFT. WHATEVER, man. I'll get to be citizen before I'm 30. I'm cool with that.

I'm just hoping that debates won't be delayed and drawn out on purpose.

i honestly don't think 5 is a lot, seems fair i think this is a little bit more than what it takes when you marry a USC.

but we don't know it

What's been released is a multiple-page summary of the bill, the actual bill hasn't been made available just yet.

It sounds just like the last DREAM act. Meaning 5.5 years as a conditional permanent resident, then the removal of conditions at the end of that period after having served in the military or gone to college for 2 years. The cool thing is that you'll be able to apply for your citizenship right after you remove the conditions. Essentially, all the 5.5 years as a conditional resident count towards the accumulation of time required to apply for USC. Something mentioned in the last DREAM act is that you cannot apply for your citizenship while in a conditional status.

Let says some has been approved to DACA (or qualifies for the dream act) and CIR has passed. Does anyone know if dreamers are able to travel to another country while we wait to get the green card?I think we would find out tomorrow but I would like to know your opinions.

Thanks.
