Giving up on the American Dream
 

Hello DREAMERS, my name is Ulises Zepeda. As many of you, I lived in the United States for a great percentage of my life illegally. I was taken there as a child, and lived there basically my entire life. Once I realized that immigration reform wasn't really headed anywhere, I decided to return to the place where I was born... Mexico. I have been here now for two years, sure I've had ups and downs, but I'm doing great. If you are reading this and have a similiar story, I want to hear your story, as well as share mine.

Its just sad to see many people give up like this. I had friends that after HS went straight back home and now they regret it so much. The people who stayed and fought it out are now seeing a brighter future and well hopefully you guys are doing good back home

Just cause you left for Mexico doesn't mean you don't have a shot at a bright future like anyone in the states does, go to Canada I heard they're having a special buy one get one passport free

Hey man, to each their own. If they can't deal with the struggle then they should go back and live life. I for one, never gave up and stuck with it. I never cried about a damn thing, never looked with envy towards others because they were citizens. I knew something had to happen sooner or later, whether through an immigration reform or marriage. I never once took anything for granted about being in this country, every now and then i would drive to the beach and look into the horizon and think to my self what a great country this is and how i wouldn't think twice about protecting it. This is my country and why should i leave? There's hardships with anything, but if there wasn't any hardships what's the point of life? This too shall pass. And look what happen, on june 15th 2012 our lives changed for the better. Mean while others are back in their home country thinking who knows what. I haven't been to my country in over 19 years now, does it suck? Of course, but that's part of the hardship and i'm willing to stick it out. Good things come to those who wait, i've lived by that. Stop crying, if you don't like it do what OP did and leave, seriously. Do us all a favor and spare us your story about how shitty your life is here without papers.

It's part of life, I don't think is giving up its just choosing a different path in life.

not really, i mean if you want to look at it that way... go ahead, but you're pretty much giving up when you have a mind set of "omg, i can't do anything here, i better go back to my home country" things are different for everybody though. Some of us might have it harder than others, but you can overcome a lot of things if you prepare yourself.

your statement is pretty much something nice you would say to somebody who couldn't handle it. Different path in life. LOL

Im glad that you have a good life in mexico! Personally I would be sad to go back.. i'm glad i stayed and made it through the struggle. THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER. dreamers dont forget

I strongly disagree with those who say leaving is giving up, it definetly isn't specially if it's a viable option. I did consider it and i decided to stay but honestly if i could go back in time i would have left (even though i just got approved)...wasted too much time doing nothing. Honestly i would have been better off academically( considering that i can barely pay for my shit here) and financially speaking probably better with a degree...of course speaking is free and that's why everyone talks specially if you live in the "better" state where u have licenses and all types of help.
