Help me decide for a job,

Well, I am currently working at this teahouse(boba) and the owner who really likes me because of my work ethics and such. He asked me if I wanted to become a manager which I said sure I will do it... At the same time, he doesn't know that my current manager is leaving by the end of June because of the way his being treated by the owner

To make the long story short, I am currently getting paid $8 and hour.. I put about 35 hours a week on average.. The thing is.. I just applied a job at the airport for part time. Delta airlines that is... They have benefits and a great place to work(couple of friends work there). The job would be a ramp job. PART TIME that is...

So IF they do call me back, what should i do? Should I turn down the manager position? My current manager only gets paid $12 an hour. His been working there for more than 5+ years. If i do become a manager, I most likely will get paid $10 an hour and no benefits as well..

Help me decide please.

It is debatable. If money is your only concern then the managerial position is best, naturally. As it will be a full-time job I assume. The money you'd pony out yourself for basic coverage (which is what most part time workers get if they're lucky) will likely still leave you with more than taking the part time with benefits would.

I get that your manager leaving because the owner and him don't get along might make you hesitant, but you need to understand why their relationship is the way it is. It could just be an isolated incident between the two and not necessarily a character flaw on the owner's part.

If you are a business student, managerial experience (even if middle management) before pursuing masters level education is also a great way to get the full experience before moving on to a salaried contract position with benefits. Unless Delta offers advancement to move past the ramp, which is just another general labor job, go for manager. From the sounds of the Delta lines, it sounds you're drawn to the friendly familiarity and laid back nature of the workplace.

I too will suggest that go for delta airlines job. A job is all about the satisfaction at the end of the day that you get from work. Make your choice, let it be wise!! catastrophic injury

Re: Help me decide for a job,

Both seem pretty temporary and deadend to me. No offense.

By the sound of it you work hard and have good ethics. So what I would do is to speak to your managers in both jobs about the growth potential of your position. For example... will part time lead to full time? If so, is there a raise?

Do you have a preferred industry? Is airline/safety going to be your thing? Having experience there will make you a safe grunt to just about any other bigger corporations. You will know the "drill."
Or do you prefer a path down retail? Being a manager of a small store can branch out into customer facing positions, mostly program managers and sometimes sales.

If all of this is going to be temporary, I'd go with airlines simply because you said you prefer the work environment. That's going to be a big up on your life. If you are going for the long term, "manager" will always be more flexible on your resume.

^wow spammer gave a good response.

Anyways you never told us what you'll be doing at the airlines?

I think you should think about what benefits you the most career wise and what will keep you happy. :)

Re: Help me decide for a job,

Hmm.. being a manager for $10/hr at a dead end job with no benefits or working at Delta which will pay at least the same, but give you opportunity to advance?

It's really not a hard choice.

If an employer is paying you $10/hr, then they're showing you that you're replaceable and not very valued. That means that you should not have any feelings of loyalty or qualms about jumping ship to a better job when the time arises.
