Work study

If we have DACA, are we eligible for work study programs? I was told at my college that I may qualify for a work study program, but I don't know if I should apply due to my immigration status.

This is such a great question!! I once heard that in California you can do this because of the Dream Act?? Is that true?!

I have no idea, but I really want to know the answer to this but I can't find anything on the web. I know that we don't qualify for fasfa, but the work study application states that I must have FASFA completed before any consideration is made.

Really? Ugh, that's not a good sign...

It depends on who's paying. My college offered me work-study through the institution, so technically I would be credited by the college for my work. If you live in a state that offers financial aid, I guess you could do it, mostly because they already know your status and thus your financial aid eligibility.

So, would it be safe to fill out the Fasfa application so I can be considered for the work study program.

I guess it depends on the school, but I didn't have to fill out the FAFSA just to be considered for the work study program. If a college wants you to fill out a FAFSA to do work-study, more than likely it is funded by the Federal government...

EDIT: Also, I knew it was Institution-based work-study because it asked me if I was interested in working at the University.

Well the application mentions that federal and state work-study awards are given. So if we don't qualify for federal stuff, can we receive the state's work-study award?

If you live in a state that offers such awards (California or Texas as an example). Sure, go for it.
