So what do you guys think about the whole Edward Snowden ordeal?
 

It seems to me that the media is focusing too much on the manhunt and making people chose whether his actions were right or wrong to distract people from the actual information that he leaked..

Information that details how the NSA monitors the phone calls of American Citizens, how the NSA also monitors internet data domestically and internationally, and how they even hack into allied countries to get insider information..

So how do you guys feel about the NSA? What do you think of Edward Snowden as a person; do you guys see him as a hero or a traitor?

I really don't understand why he did it. It is not like I didn't know already. I mean we knew that since the patriot act passed. Plus is not like they can listen in to every call we freaking make. They data mine for certain words or hints. When it first came out I just though he was looking for a book deal. It is not the same as eaves dropping on your neighbors conversations when the baby monitor is on.

Actually they do literally monitor every call we make. Every text. Everything. A few years ago they made NSA a brand new building just for this. But just exactly what are they going to get from random talks ? I don't get that.

I'm with Flying we already knew this was happening. But for the most part the people sort of forgot and/or did not care and Snowden reminded everyone. I doubt the US will do anything drastic to Snowden since his face has been seen in ever media outlet. Still, I think the people should know if this program actually works to curb terrorism. Probably not, but still.

Congress recently tried to pass a bill that would defund the NSA Phone Program. It didn't pass but it is a good start.

They monitor but they don't listen in unless the computer triggers further review but by the time they get to it is probably late. I mean they dropped the ball with the Boston attack.

Snowden is perceived as Hero by the populace worldwide, as traitor to the borderline fascist U.S. government.

I think this program is being used to gather and store information to create a profile for everyone living within the system. In time, I think the AI (quantum computers) will be able to accurately predict your next move before you, yourself. Sounds like some Si-fi fantasy but it is a possibility, the military industrial complex has technology that is probably 300 years more advanced than what is available for the mindless consumer masses.

If you have seen the movie Eagle Eye, they show/tell you what their doing, and capable of.

Snowden has information, I think that could cause mass civil unrest over night, but will he release it?

Oh I think the media made this whole thing into...some cat and mouse game, you know? pop-politics, and info-tainment.

It's a shame everyone is so dormant still, but hey that bill was fairly close to being passed so that says some people are actually upset about constitutional rights being raped and what not.

all and all -- does it really matter? it's only the future of the internet. But we think it's the future of a single person.
