PROPOSAL

We are all literate, intelligent, tertiary-educated individuals.

How about we rewrite DREAM Act.

How about we strip it down - and just leave behind the bare bones. Take out all language of eventual citizenship. (All I need is a few years to get on my feet, and then I'll disappear from America - like is wanted by so many) (I'm sure that's all you guys need as well. Just a chance to work. Then, we uphold our end of the deal (w.e. that may be - i.e.: a severely limited conditional residency period, then we high-tail it out of this country.)

When we rewrite it, we toss it over to Durbin, let him give it one last try....

Drastic, yes....

Thoughts?

-parents can't benefit from our legalization
-$1000 fine must be paid before we gain any benefits
-we must get a degree
and/or
-get an honorable discharge from military
-previous two + community service
-we don't get put in the front of the line. all we get is work permit and legal residence then we have to wait like everyone else for the rest.

those are some of the things i thought of. but i'm not willing to go much father than that. I guess you could say it's my ego, but I'm not gonna give up and let Alicrap rejoice while we suffer. eventually, our lives will be better than theirs. The only reason we're behind now is because of the status we were put at when we were kids. If it weren't for that, they'd be picking up our trash. I wanna make sure that I can get to the point where I make them pick up my trash.

can you tell i dislike them? In fact, it's gotten to the point where I think they're pathetic.

PS: we, as a community, need to grow a pair and stop acting like losers.

UPDATE: here are the things i thought were brought up that were good. I tried to leave out the things I thought were too strict, counter-productive, or unrealistic. I'll keep on updating this as more ideas come up

1) parents can't benefit from our legalization
2) $1000 fine must be paid before we gain any benefits
3) a. we must get a degree
and/or
3) b. get an honorable discharge from military
4) require community service plus either college or military (i.e. everyone has to do community service, no matter what, but that alone is not enough to get GC.)
5) we don't get put in the front of the line. all we get is work permit and legal residence then we have to wait like everyone else for the rest.
6) valid transcript from High School (they make a phonecall where we graduated)
7) put in more details about how all the info has to be checked and verified to make sure no phonies apply.
8. a job sponsor or a institute
9) citizenship is not obtainable with the Dream act (i.e. if you get married, then eventually you can get citizenship)
10) absolutely no financial aid or work study sound
11) limit the time period - you get 3 yrs for an AA degree, 5 years for a BA degree
12) male will have to be castrated so these damn illegals won't produce offsprings (lol. j/k)

Come to think about it, is Dream an easy visa ? I would say it's every easy to obtain/qualify for dream. In my opnion we should have a stricter reform. there are things to consider:
1. only student that obtained or perusing a master degree or higher are to be considered for student visa.
2. work visa is given to whom are not in school (but must obtain a master degree or higher), but must find a job within a given time frame.
3. pay a fine.
4. chain migration ? this is a tough one.

but guys when we are making it stricter, please leave some room for negotiation. :)

REVO-FUCKING-LUTION.

It IS possible.

thedream 10-26-2007 01:50 AM

-asking people to get a masters is unrealistic and unnecessary.
-a lot of people need to work to be able to go to school in the first place.
-let's be honest. If we want to stay true to the purpose of DREAM, parents shouldn't be able to get legalized.

considering all this, we need to stop trying to bend over as much as possible to let some dumbarses screw us over as much as possible. This post has really been weird lately.

what is the difference between your bill and the dream act that just failed ? I seriously don't see any differences.

really? all those things i listed aren't included in the current version.

glacier1985 10-26-2007 01:53 AM

Dream ACT:
get a degree
pay a fine.
military route.
community service.

yours has the same, only except for chain migration, which i think is a very tough topic, democrats may not support it if you leave it out.

MrsMom 10-26-2007 01:54 AM

I think permenent residency, $1,000 fine, and some combination of community service/college/military service.

I think if you throw in the community service option you will shut up some of the people who talk about the latino draft / and or who think the "college" part isn't helping the U.S., So maybe staggered - 5 thousand hours community service and a vocational school /3 thousand and an A.A. /1 thousand and a B.A. --- something along those lines. I think you could also tie college / vocational training to high demand careers or something.

But, since it doesn't effect me I think my opinion doesn't really matter on this.
