The 2008 senate elections thread
the winners will serve six-year terms from January 3, 2009 until January 3, 2015 as members of Senate Class II. There is also one special election for a seat from Wyoming; the winner will serve the remainder of the term that expires on January 3, 2013 as a member of Senate Class I.
The current composition of the Senate, going into the 2008 election, consists of 49 Republicans, 49 Democrats, and two independents (Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, who both caucus with Democrats). Actually the elections may not be as great as you all hoped since a number of our supporters are resigning and the Republicans up for reelection are largely popular.
So just don't think that suddenly the Dems will get 22 seats. I'm pretty sure the gains will be in single digits. |
Alright, everyone get your citizen family and friends registered to vote. If they moved, they may need to fix that. I recommend registering them as republicans so they can pick in the primaries the ones that support immigrants or if none are available the ones that are the most likely to fail in the general election. If they have money tell them to donate! Instead of birthday gifts, I'm asking citizen friends and family to instead donate to an immi friendly candidate.

lol we should play Fantasy Elections..
and see who has the most candidates chosen won.. the prize has yet to be determined |
I have a couple of friends who are bookies in Vegas. Their colleagues in the large casinos (MGM Grand, Mirage, Bellagio, Trump) have discreetly retained some veteran political analysts and DC lobbyists to analyze the Senate elections and generate odds on each of the contested Senate seats. They'll be coming up with odds around April 2008. All of Vegas will be making odds around August 2008.
Vegas will bet on anything. When Greenspan was retiring, they had odds on who would be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve. A whole bunch of people made money on Bernanke. |
you should probably also list the pro-dream senators going up for re-election or retiring in 2008, so that we get a better idea on what our chances are for a 2008 dream act = \ ..
..just a suggestion . |
