McCain: Next few weeks a 'critical time in the life or death' of immigration reform

I think McCain is right, and this will be dependent I think on what legalization provisions the House GOP can come up with in the Judiciary starting with the 'Kids Act'.
Quote:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), one of the members of the "Gang of Eight" who crafted immigration reform legislation in the Senate, said Tuesday that the time following the House of Representatives' return from summer recess will be critical "in the life or death" of immigration reform.

McCain discussed the bill at a town-hall meeting with his junior colleague, Sen. Jeff Flake, (R) in their home state at a roundtable focused on the issue, hosted by The Arizona Republic, 12 News, and azcentral.com.

Flake is another member of the bipartisan “Gang of Eight,” which also includes Sens. Michael Bennet, (D-Colo.), Dick Durbin, (D-Ill.), Lindsey Graham, (R-S.C.), Robert Menendez, (D-N.J.), Marco Rubio, (R-Fla.), and Charles Schumer, (D-N.Y.). The group wrote and championed the immigration reform bill through the upper chamber in June. The final vote was 68-32.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has said he won’t take it up in the House.

“I remain guardedly optimistic,” McCain said about the House advancing immigration reform. The senator said he hopes the House will pass legislation so the two chambers can go to conference and compromise on a single bill that will eventually go to the president.

Flake made clear that he and McCain never thought the House would consider the Senate’s version as is.

“The bill became much better when it went through the Judiciary Committee,” Flake said. “It became better when it went through the Senate floor. I hope the House improves it.”

President Obama said earlier this month that the Senate version must pass the GOP-controlled House.

Enhanced border security, an E-Verify system for employers and a pathway to citizenship for immigrants already living illegally in the United States are some of the notable provisions of the comprehensive bill, which is more than 1,000 pages.

Over the next decade, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicts the legislation would lead to more than 10 million additional people living in the United States. The CBO also projects the bill would decrease the federal budget deficit by $197 billion.

“It’s not a perfect piece of legislation, but I do believe that this is a compromise in some cases that all of us can support,” McCain said.

Flake said he’s going to visit the U.S.'s southern border tomorrow.
I've also noticed that many House GOP members talk about securing 'The Border' first before any legalization provisions and like to appear "tough",lol.I was thinking it would be quite funny if a Democrat Rep. introduced an amendment to the "Kid's Act" that would exclude the potential beneficiaries[Dreamers] from any of the triggers if the United States is engaged in 'hostilities'.The vote would be interesting to see considering the Syria situation.

I'm telling you, GOP is gonna go all out with an age cap of 5-10 and must have entered the U.S. at the exact same time you exited your mothers womb.

They are not going to take this seriously, and will just use KIDS ACT as some kind of BS test to see what they can use to try and get away with not passing CIR/Dream Act...and then KIDS ACT won't pass anyway, and they will then test how far they can go saying "Oh look we tried to pass something, but Democrats denied it"

Then there are excuses that they won't be able to do CIR/Dream Act because of their other debates that actually have deadlines...

...so yea, its gonna be interesting to see what goes down in these last 4 months of the year.

They can say whatever the hell they want and place whatever ads against democrats during elections ... It does not change the fact we are not stupid and the Latino media has been killing and blaming the GOP for everything these past couple of years. Democrats can retaliate with better arguments any way about the unjust ideas behind the watered down bills or bullshit facade they are putting to make it seem as if "they tried." GOP you didn't try... That's the bottom line. Obama executed DACA and you blocked a good dream act by our standard that was INCLUDED in the senate immigration reform bill. And you blocked the rest of the CIR bill because of border security... Let's see how popular that is with minorities when elections come.

So true.... First let see if the g7 can release the blueprint of their plan, second the kids act standars, and in my personal view if the enlist army bill is gonna pass.

I'm not too worried about it based on America's actions. Obama has already indicated that this is going to be a showy intervention of a few missile strikes and symbolic hits on military compounds. He's not even aiming for a no-fly zone or a dual coordinated offensive with the rebels. He even said regime change wasn't on the table. This is purely for politics and the milt-indust complex.

No I'm more worried Israel uses this as the perfect chance to attack Iran, which would be GLOBAL CHAOS SCENARIO 1.

Indeed, it is. I hope we keep to ourselves. I believe the President has to request permission from Congress before striking. I hope cooler heads prevail.
