Applying for pharm school need help

Hey, I was granted DACA last August and I'm basically in the process of working on pharmacy school application which has been my long dream. Luckily, when I was undocumented, where I had no visa and SSN, my school accepted me and I took classes for 4 years with them offering me some scholarship although I had to pay 2 times the in-state students do. (my state do not offer financial aid nor in-state tuition). I came a long way to get here and although I was concerned about huge amount of tuition money of attending pharmacy school, my parents always told me to try hard then one day you will get paid off. Also, I might get some financial help from relatives or cosigner in case of getting a loan. Back to the point, I'm working on pharmacy school application and in this website they told me to state a citizenship status. Of course, I'm not a permanent resident but I know my school and other school that I'm applying do consider international student ( I don't know if this is the right category I fall into). But I do want to emphasize to them that I don't need to get sponsorship or get H-1 visa since I already hold EAD, and my chance will be higher of course If I don't get considered as international student since they have higher admission restriction. So under current citizenship status, initially I was debating between eligible non-citizen or foreign citizen as option and also type of visa I hold.. but you know we have EAD but no visa. Should I put "none" or "other" in type of visa I hold? Also, "non-eligible citizen" or "foreign citizen"? This is general application that goes to every school I'm applying to but I'm going to put down "DACA" status on specific school supplemental application.

Wish the best luck for you two, Ill be taking that route too. I currently just became a Pharmacy Technician with the approval of DACA, My long term goal is going to pharmacy school, but dont know how thinks work with this that we are no US citizens. Ill be working as a tech to know more about pharmacy and hopefully ill be getting married and make things easier if i become resident. best of luck for you and keep me posted.

Hey, thank you
I also got pharmacy technician license few weeks ago, but I still lack some pharmacy experience since I couldn't find a job yet. But I think it will somehow work it out.
Going to pharmacy school as non-citizens can be tough road ahead, especially financially, and I was worried about this all the time in my college years, but my parents always encouraged me to work toward my goal even harder and it took me lots of money and years to get to senior in college with out-of-state tuition but I did finally came really close to the entrance of my goal. So I can tell you this, don't give up your goal and if you try hard enough you will get paid off one day for sure. Although we don't qualify for any financial aid under DACA at least we can get a bank loan with the aid of cosigner and I think having EAD and SSN had at least open a small window for some of us who pursue health professions. I won't worry too much about not getting in because of our status, but all I do is study hard for the upcoming PCAT exam and pray for passage of CIR or Dream act.
Best of luck to you and your life ahead, too

i can help provide tips, test taking strategy and the type of studying material for taking PCAT. i scored 95% and currently have 3.78 GPA.
we arent qualify for financial aid but i applied for the scholarships from the science department in my school and got granted $1700 for this semester and $1200 for spring. i also received $500 from my fraternity last winter.
so dont give up your hopes and dreams. we are not any lower than the american students just because we don have a legal status

Thanks, and yes what worries me is the money, Its been hard for me Ive been paying for my college tuition and hopefully in the future they will be making a school here in RGV which will be better for the reason that I wont need to travel or have to pay for rent wherever i go for Pharmacy school. Best of luck for you and and thanks ill be preparing for the PCAT exam.

I was thinking of doing pharmacy school too, but I was turned off by the tuition. I live in Nevada and ever since they privatized the pharm school in Henderson tuition costs more than 40,000 a year and its a three year program...I mean having 120,000 plus debt after graduating is a pretty serious issue

Hi, I'm also planing to go to pharmacy school, and I'm also having trouble with "non-eligible citizen" or "foreign citizen" option on the apllication. It would be great if anyone with the application experience can help me out.

LOL.. Can't believe this post was a year ago already.. In my pharmcas application, I just put down non-eligible citizen and unless pharmacy schools do not consider non-permanent resident (some schools do that), you won't have any problem in application process. Now getting accepted to pharmacy school and funding for school is different story. Fortunately, I was able to receive $6000 a year from dean's scholarship and private loan paid off my expensive school tuition. My advice to you is keep up a good work and you will get accepted somewhere for sure.
