Afraid of flying with friends.
 

Hello! This may be a weird topic but I'm wondering if anyone else ever thought about this.

My friends have asked me to go to Cali with them, and I know we can all travel domestically now, using our Drivers Licsences or other IDs but I'm still afraid of dealing with the airport for no other reason than the questions the TSA agents may have. I'm not "out" to my friends about my situation, and I reeeeeally dont want to talk to them about it, so my worry is that even if I do show my employment authorization card, or my Learner's permit, the TSA agent may ask a question about why it says "Temp Visitor" on it. Or maybe he'll just make a passing comment. It gives me anxiety thinking that the agent will say something with my friends standing right there.

Anyone else ever have to defend their IDs when traveling? Or have similar experiences?

TSA is not immigration. They won't question your "Temporary Status". Show them your ID and be on your way.

would i be better off showing my EAD card? or my temp visitor permit? or my passport? Isnt TSA who pulls you away when there's something questionable about your status or visa or whatever?

You have NOTHING to worry about. Two reasons. First..The officials will just look at your ID and be like, "Have a safe trip." Second reason..Even if you do have to sort of have to reveal something to your friends, all you have to say is something along the lines of, "Oh yeah I just have some pending immigration applications in the process blahblahblah" Half of the citizens brought up here have absolutely no clue what it means to be an undocumented individual. Plus you are LAWFULLY PRESENT in the country. Have fun.

Don't worry about it you are absolutely fine. Besides if your friends give you a weird look or anything if the TSA does say something. Then ask yourself. Are those true friends? Enjoy the trip and do not fuse on the smaller things in life.

I have traveled from Chicago to LA and Chicago to NY with just my passport (No Visa Stamp on it) never had a problem. Plus when you show your IDs to the Security the call one by one.

I actually had the same concerns as you, I'm from New York so it's a BIG RED LETTERS, I've already traveled on an airplane over 20 times since being approved less than a year ago and have been to Vegas and clubs and bars restaurants, basically every place imaginable, I've presented my ID well over 100 times or more I have only been asked why it says temp visitor once on it and it was from this fat bitch dealer in Vegas (she didn't like my group of friends because they were drunk and placing obsurd bets and screaming everytime they win so she was trying to give us a hard time) she looked at it and was like wait why does it say temp visitor? Infront of all my friends which don't know about my status and I told her, doesn't concern you, you checked my DOB, can I have my license back please. She just hands it to me and shuts up.

The TSA I can guarantee they won't comment or even care.. I'm sure they see that every day. You're fine, like I said I used my ID 100+ times and consider myself never questioned, just by one lady. And only because she wanted to give me a hard time.

I traveled w ith my NC license via airport twice already with the words LIMITED TERM, LEGAL PRESENCE, NO LAWFUL STATUS

plastered in big red bold letters. They didn't even bat an eye. Not a single word uttered nor did they hesitate to clear me. And this was in the bible belt.

TSA agents are for the most part mall cops with a little bit of power. Just show your state ID and don't worry. I've only had one TSA agent hold my id next to my face to check out the picture and got "randomly selected" which made me a little nervous and I didn't even have an EAD. Keep your EAD card in your pocket too because well, why wouldn't you carry it with you and it's the only thing that shows you have pseudo status in the .0001% chance something might go wrong.
